Just an observation here

Post by Lena »

I am a new member here and really enjoy this forum and support it 100%
I fully support open and concealed carry, up to the choice of the CHL holder and legal status of locations
Other than around here, I live in a rural area and raise cattle it is doubtful I will OC much if any, my choice there
What I learned after a military and law enforcement background was to be as low key as possible, things seem to just go easier
SO all the OC of rifles, carbines to many is a turn off, the demo's also, the OC of single action's in western rigs are not really a show of a carry for defense, they sure do look good though !
If an establishment chooses to post an 06/07 sign it there right to do so and should be, we have several choices upon us from that posting, so what's the big fuss either leave, comply or possibly face a huge problem. The more resistant to prove a point may win the battle and lose the war for you.
I try to respect everyone's wishes either business or private and do not wish to cause any a problem, myself included. If they have posted a sign hopefully legal or slightly not legal they are honestly advising you they do not want firearms on their property, respect that rather than create a problem, you might be very polite and ask a question or two but comply. Causing a problem will not only cause you a problem but could indirectly do the same for many more.
Thoughts please------
Thank you in advance for any replies.

I think you will find most on the forum agree with what you've stated.

I will protest with my pocketbook whether or not anyone else thinks it will make a difference or not.

Welcome to the Forum Lena.
I don't call it a protest, I call it rewarding like minded people

I agree with you Lena. Even if a business has posted technically incorrect signs that may not be "technically" legal, the management of that business has still expressed their wishes pertaining to firearms on their premises. Maybe I'm too compliant and easy going, but I'm not going to challenge their policies and carry past an incorrect sign. There is just no percentage in creating a problem for yourself. I will either not carry there or just go somewhere else.

I agree with y'all. I've always tried to avoid 'majoring in minors' and going/staying where I don't feel welcome. An imperfect sign sends the same message as does a size/letter perfect sign.

The holidays are over, thank Goodness. Let's standby and listen to see how OC works out today in the real world.

I have CCed past non compliant signs any number of times through the years. They are not binding and concealed still means concealed. Never a problem. OCing past a hand made sign is a different matter, and is going to result in some level of drama. There is a reason I did not study drama in high school or college, and don't find it appealing now, either.

To me it's really simple, you don't like the rules don't go there. There are plenty of other places to shop. If it's a place I really like they post an .07 sign, I'll cover up, if for some reason they decide to do a .06 sign and I really like the establishment I'll talk to the management say look here I've been a faithful customer for a long time but I can't come here anymore because you posted this sign. The restaurants I go to know me so the conversation will be easy. I can't boycott HEB I've only been at the most 3 times in the last 10 years. I know the political climate has changed somewhat and other states were pretty quiet about passing OC. There is a group that made a lot of noise and got a lot of attention both good and bad.
