a six year old thread, on which new legal bearing has come to pass as of last August. According to an article on the US Law Shield site, if the city does not respond within 3 business days of receiving written notice of the non-compliant sign, you can file a specific complaint with the Texas Attorney General's office.
I took my letter down to city hall Dec 31. Handed it directly to the city manager with supporting documentation and sufficient copies for the mayor and city council. Had an interesting chat with the city manager and the city judge. Even though the city manager is a CHL (I'm paraphrasing the following) he can't believe the state would stop them from regulating city property!.... Said he'd already read the AGs opinion and would be briefing the city council on "all aspects of the carry laws" He said the matter won't be settled quickly.
The ordinance that is on the books was written a long time ago (it's undated!) so has to be updated anyway.
At this time I don't hold a lot of hope that the city will comply with state law without coercion from the AG. I may have stirred up a hornets nest when city council gets involved. I'm an "outsider" that moved to town 9 years ago and they have been here for lifetime.
I'll give them a little time before the next step.

Indeed, the new legal bearing is relevant (just having fun with ya!). Welcome to the forum. I think you'll find lots of good info on here, and we welcome you with open arms!

I noticed that the 70-14 ordinance sign has been taken down. And replaced with a 4 foot x 4 foot 3006/3007 sign like that one they use at city hall at the entrance to the commission room when the city commission meets. I'm guessing the big sign is here as the rec. center is a polling location for both early voting and regular voting. However, the sign is just inside the building entrance; the room polling takes place in is about 70 feet further into the building interior. Be interesting to see if the big sign goes away after March 1st.

And at the pace with which the AG seeems to be moving on all these complaints it might be another six years before anything is done about them.

I'll mention this again: IF the AG would make a highly publicized example of one recalcitrant city who won't comply with the new law, it would go a looooooooong way to motivate the rest into compliance.
One example.
However, maybe the AG doesn't like the new law either and is simply foot dragging as long as he can get away with...
