Interesting comment by the police association president that they need more police officers to put more people in jail because people they put in jail will commit more crimes in the future.
And all the people said "Duh!"
That's a somewhat...well....dumb statement...IF he really said that...and IF it was printed in context. (Note that the article doesn't really say or explain anything.)
The odds of a police officer being present at all the places where a murder occurs (mostly private homes)...extremely unlikely. People who get arrested and put in jail get out on bail or bond. The only alternative is if someone gets arrested...never, ever let them out...that way they can't commit more crimes in the future...right? See the silliness in his statement?
I'm not saying the city doesn't need more officers, but more officers would not likely affect the murder rate since people usually wait until there's a police officer NOT around before they murder.

There is a notable decrease in police presence. There is a severe shortage. Our NPO has pointed this out. A major call in one patrol zone may force 2 neighboring patrol zones to have no patrol officers for a couple of hours due to there not being enough officers to fill the patrol needs. I used to see a beat cop passing by my place at least once an hour. Now it's once a day, if that. Presence makes a big difference. Dallas PD has been losing officers left and right to neighboring departments. That said, a very lax court system in Dallas County is a problem.

Yeah, people want to blame the police for criminals being back on the street so fast, but the police have no authority to release anyone after they have been put in jail. When you have Liberal judges handing out probation and no one keeping track of the probationers, there is no way to stop crime. The Dallas Police have their hands tied almost as bad as Chicago, so all of the officers are looking for work in other places.

One of our previous NPOs was doing a phenomenal job of getting neighborhoods to take ownership of their areas. Cutting down shut berry, clearing vacant lots (with owner permission), etc. were all getting done. That gets rid of hiding places. He had a repeat offender who got released once again with an extended probation. The guy got arrested again. He told the neighborhood to show up to the hearings and alerted the media. He actually got significant jail time that time around. He's since been demoted back to patrol.

Yeah that type of community activism goes against the Left agenda that the Police are the problem and not the solution, they don't want to see criminals go to jail for long stays, they want to see the chaos, so they can pander to the people for donations to BLM and other groups.

Same story all over wanting fewer people to do more work and when stuff hits a fan they wonder why it took so long to do other regular stuff that used to get done in a much shorter time. It really chaps my hide when someone else keeps telling me that it only takes x number of people to do my job because some other place does it with fewer people. Okay, I'm out. I can already feel my BP increasing. Ohhhmmmm

There's some very good reasons for this. Almost every one of them are directly related to the political climate in Dallas.

This and that the city doesn't support them very much and gets them terrible healthcare coverage. In Dallas' case, the grass is greener pretty much everywhere else in the metroplex.
