ATT (Cowboy) stadium
I attended the "Showboat" simulcast event last night. Wonderful performance, but the event was posted with sandwich board signs at the entrances.. This is a city owned venue and was not a sporting event.
Legal?

Re: ATT (Cowboy) stadium
Is it city owned???? It originally was, that is the only way it could have been built using eminent domain. Cowboys or ATT couldn't have done it. I only hear it called ATT or Cowboy stadium, never Arlington stadium.
Re: ATT (Cowboy) stadium
I went to ATT stadium in January for a non-professional/non-scholastic sporting event and was denied entry because I was CC'ing. They had permanent signs on the fences near gate 4. They are owned by the City of Arlington. I wrote the City Attorney and their response was: "We" (City) did not post the signs or prevent your entry, therefore we are not in violation.hovercat wrote:I attended the "Showboat" simulcast event last night. I didn't get to follow up with AG because I didn't go back out there to see if the signs were still up. If you want to see the thread...

Send it to the AG anyway. I have had 3 places take down signs. I do not check to see if they came down 3 days later. If in three days I do not get a positive response, I send to AG. One place did take the signs down prior to the AG contacting them.ScottDLS wrote:

Re: ATT (Cowboy) stadium
It was still posted on March 6 for a religious event called Harvest America. Free, non-sporting, non-scholastic event. You can't get to all of the entrances when there is not an event going on, but you can get to several of them. When I have gone by at those times they were still posted, even though there wasn't any type of event going at all. They are definitely in violation.

Re: ATT (Cowboy) stadium
Just to clarify. It is owned by the city. Leased by the Cowboys. I'm not well educated in all the ins and outs, but is the city attorney correct in saying it's not on them since they didn't post the signs? I'm trying to think of a similar situation. Maybe a strip mall and the mall owner doesn't post signs, but a particular store posts signs, they would be enforceable. So if the current tenant of a city owned building posted signs, is that legit? They would have "apparent authority" so I guess the only question is whether or not the ownership of the building by a gov't entity overrides their apparent authority.
Re: ATT (Cowboy) stadium
In all these cases the political subdivision, i.e. city, county, etc. is the party responsible for paying the fines. As the owner they have legal standing to require their tenant to take down the signs that would cause the owner of the property to be fined. If they don't take them down the city, county, etc. could sue the tenant for the fines that the state is collecting daily, plus attorney fees, costs etc. So tenants (Zoo, Cowboys etc.) are not going to accept the financial liability of keeping the signs up that their landlord tells them they must take down.wpmjones wrote:Just to clarify. I've yet to read about any city being fined for not obeying gun laws.
So, we can vent, bemoan, wring our hands, and shout with outrage, but the various governmental entities keep (for the most part with the exception of a few signs being taken down) getting away with their scofflaw ways.

Re: ATT (Cowboy) stadium
Honestly, I don't think anyone has reported ATT Stadium to the AG yet. I took the time to write the City of Arlington, but I didn't follow up with the AG. My bad.

Hmm. Not my experience. All took down their signs. Keep in mind this is still the 1st inning. AG is probably flooded with letters and does not have staff to address them all at once. This will be an ongoing process.Abraham wrote:I've yet to read about any city being fined for not obeying gun laws.

They don't get "fined". The AG has to sue them first. If he wins, then the daily penalty is used to set the amount.Abraham wrote:I've yet to read about any city being fined for not obeying gun laws.

At least, that's the way I understand it works.
