Vicious Dogs trying to maul me

Re: Vicious Dogs trying to maul me
Get your LTC. You don't need to risk going to jail with your condition. Maybe you should invest in a treadmill. Any sort of stick will work with most dogs but the time it doesn't will not be pretty.
Get your license. A few hours of driving is not that hard to do, especially when its being done for your health.

The more I think about it, a 20 ga is more appropriate. If a dog is vicious enough to attack a human on public property the dog needs to be put down. As much as I love dogs I think about my 84 year old Mom out walking. We have had two instances out here of a human being killed by small (3 each time) pack of pit bulls. Both times they broke thru a fence which was suppose to contain them. I blame the owners more than the dogs. The dogs were probably protecting territory. I know a man who was attacked by a Pit while walking on a public irrigation ditch. He dispatched the dog with a shotgun.
Re: Vicious Dogs trying to maul me
Now we need to ban these vicious "assault dogs" along with guns. We already have commonsense dog legislation, we just need to tweak it a little to ban the vicious breeds. Nobody needs an assault dog for sporting purposes any more than they need weapons of war on America's streets.

OC spray and a good solid walking stick until you get your LTC. OC spray has worked well for me when I run into mean puppies. I have emptied an entire can of spray on one dog before and he still kept coming back.
Also, if you live in the county and there isn't a county animal control then the sherrif office is responsible for all animal calls. A lot of people don't know this.

Everyone needs a friend or two in Law Enforcement. I have a few cop buddies, and all of them firmly subscribe to the above.RicoTX wrote:If a LEO around here ever issued a citation to an otherwise law abiding citizen for carrying a stick while walking... they would be tied up and tarred. I would gladly do it myself without hesitation. I would also throw said LEO into a pack of wild dogs... without any weapons... or a stick.rotor wrote:snip... Carrying a stick as mentioned is illegal also as that is considered a club.
There is a drastic difference between some guy walking down the street like he is up to no good with a billy club, ASP baton, or a black jack, and a guy who is obviously out for a walk with a carved walking stick, maybe even a golf club, a broom handle, or something similar.
Anyone who cannot tell that difference has no business being a cop.
As a side note, what about an old man who is walking with a cane... is he going to get cuffed and stuffed for carrying a "club"?
I don't frigging think so.
OP, get a shotgun and call the county animal control.

Well this does not seem to be an endorsement for sprays.nightmare69 wrote:OC spray and a good solid walking stick until you get your LTC. OC spray has worked well for me when I run into mean puppies. I have emptied an entire can of spray on one dog before and he still kept coming back.

Re: Vicious Dogs trying to maul me
My current state is weak, had an aortic dissection the type that killed John Ritter. It is an hour away to the nearest instructor LTC class, but I really get dizzy when driving my car for an extended amount of time due to my current medications/post surgery, 10 minute trip to HEB no problem, 1 hour to Mcallen is asking for it. A shotgun should do the trick. My neighbor used to be animal control (he would shoot on sight at homeless dogs, but he is now in a nursing home.) A cain/club is a good idea, but these dogs are fast and smart! They have managed to kill almost all the cats around the neighborhood! My area is just plagued with dogs roaming around (i've count around 23 dogs total roaming in packs of 6 or 7). I can get a treadmill at a Walmart close by, but i like to go out and walk outside, it is my right to peacefully walk outside. Also Starr County is known for lawlessness, it got so bad that they sent around 250 DPS units just to control the drug trade and human trafficking in the area. I've called laws before and they told me to buy a gun and shoot them all, i'am very tempted to do what the officer said, but i always want to follow the rules. Anyways I think the shotgun option is the best.

Sprays work well. The best none lethal is flashbangs, that is what our local SWAT uses on trained guard dogs.rotor wrote:Well this does not seem to be an endorsement for sprays.nightmare69 wrote:OC spray and a good solid walking stick until you get your LTC. Flashbangs, kind of expensive for non-LEO's at $200 tax per grenade, if you can find a Destructive Device dealer who will sell you one.

Re: Vicious Dogs trying to maul me
A couple of thoughts about using a long gun:
1. Be prepared for the enraged owner that says, "Oh, you SHOT my little Foo-Fee!"...Things could get nasty very quickly.
2. To be safe, I would get the blessing from the local sheriff and game warden. If they are good with it then that is one less obstacle.
I recommend getting a light-weight wooden cane with the "crook' in it that you put your hand on. They are available at drugstores and Wal-Marts and are very inexpensive. I cannot imagine any peace officer accusing you of carrying a "club" in the situation you describe.
Hope you quickly get your strength back!

Re: Vicious Dogs trying to maul me
Just remember the reverse is not true. Police can lie to you 100% legal. That is why if confronted/arrested/interrogated, the [generally] safest thing to say is: "I wish to remain silent and want a lawyer." If you had to shoot someone -- a person, not a dog -- in self defense, then I would alter the above very slightly....and it is also illegal to speak lies into government statements/reports...
I was always taught a warning shot is what you call a miss....Shotguns are cheap, and if you need to use it, no warning shots...

Re: Vicious Dogs trying to maul me
I would also recommend the use of a cane over a walking stick for you. If you are looking for a heavier cane with a solid hand grip look at the bubba stick. It is a little thicker and heavier than most other canes you will find.

Yes they are. We have yet to get any. Spray is the best option IMO. You can get LE spray for around $25 for a large can through Galls. Just don't spray it into the wind as I have because if you do be ready to feel the burn.

If I were rich enough to get the DD ammo and could find a dealer, I'd get an M203 and some HE grenades. Alas I'm not and I can't.
