A while back I asked for some information about the carry laws in Arkansas, specifically about the legality of carrying in restaurants that served alcohol. The good members of this forum gave me quick and accurate information then, so I have another question now, since we will be leaving on the trip in less than two weeks!
What is the legal status for carrying in a vehicle without a permit? Can I have my Glock 23 on my person and my wife's Glock 19 in the glove compartment (she has no CHL, yet)? If there is no limit to how many weapons you can carry (like New Mexico has), then both would be covered by my CHL, since the glove compartment is about my person, right? Or would they assume it was her pistol and try to prosecute her for UCW (or their equivalent)?
Also, in the event of a traffic stop, are we required to notify LEO's that we are packing, like we are in Texas?

This is one of the "main" reasons my wife got her CHL and Utah CHP...
She may not be the main "carrier" person in the family, but at least when I am away she has the option...She knows I can take care of "things" most of the time...
But I would caution, the same way my wife figured this out...That if I leave the car, and she's sitting there with access, "on or about her person" (we've all heard this before), she should be licensed to cover that base...
Arkansas is a great place, and one of the base reciprocity states we obtained when the Texas CHL came to be...
I believe some of their "provisions" and "no go" places are a bit over the top, but thems their rules...
I would cover the concern about UCW for her by not leaving a firearm on or about her person...I wouldn't chance it...You will be given a lot more attention by law enforcement (obviously), so they'll be quicker to possibly see what your all about...Better to be covered by the license, than risk the question coming up about you stepping out of the car, and she stays behind while you run into a convienience store for snacl or something...
I just threw that in as an example...
I would recommend you work on the plan some more, and see if you can work around the issue without putting her at risk of a UCW...
Keep it simple, don't let it become a chore, I'm sure it'll be something you can be comfortable with...

Beautiful trip! I carried, but we did not even bring the wife's pistol. Too many potential hassles. The country side was gorgeous.
I was warned on this forum and one or two others that I frequent that any "no guns" sign is legally binding in Arkansas, but I never saw a single one! And yes, I was actively looking everywhere we went.
In a non-CHL tangent, the drivers in Arkansas were the most well-mannered drivers I have encountered. I did not once see an overly-aggressive or rude driver, and noticed several drivers yeilding right-of-way even when not required to do so. On the other hand, once back into Texas, I had three near-misses within 6 hours or so of crossing the border!

Ahh....so that's where all of the courteous drivers went to that used to live around here years ago........
