Need to know if it's worth it or not

Post by cmgee67 »

I am going to buy a sig P226 in 9mm. I had found one brand. New for 799$ and I didn't jump on it. So while I try and see if I can find another for that price my local gun shop has several used ones ranging from 675-brand new at 915$. It must have a rail so that limits me some. I'd rather have brand new but would a used one be just fine? I have only bought two used guns ever and both were great from that shop. I just don't know. What say you all?

It depends on why they were sold in the first place. There could be nothing at all wrong with a used gun or it could need to be sent back to the manufacturer for repairs or whatever related to some sort of recall. IDK

I have only sold two firearms (Glock 22 and 27) and both were in perfect working order. I was just switching from .40 to .45.

It would be cool if the place were you were buying it from had a range and would let you fire a few rounds to check it out.

They do have a range. I have never asked if they would let me test the gun or not. I know what to look for to tell if it's well used or not. If it's in great shape I don't have an issue. I just like to be the first owner. Sig has the reputation of the "to H.LL and back" reliability and function but I want to make sure it's ok. Both guns I bought that were used had less than a couple hindered through each and I knew one of the owners personally. I will buy the new one if price is decent but if not used is probly ok.

It also depends on how much you figure the warranty is worth to you.

You have to register a Sig to get the warranty. They don't warrant used guns.

When I had problems with my P938, I called Sig. Since I had bought it used, it didn't have a warranty. I had to pay a bit less than $100 for round trip shipping plus a service charge to evaluate the pistol. They made sure I understood that I would have to pay for any repairs.

A week after they received it, I got a return shipping notice. When the pistol arrived, they had replaced the sear pin, replaced the barrel, adjusted the sights and test fired it. They never did charge me.

That's excellent! Yes if I buy a brand new one you can bet your bottom dollar it will be registered

I've bought lots of used guns, of the sig variety my beloved 229, 239, 250 and ultra compact 1911 were all used guns. The only new sig I've purchased was a 938. All have been 100% flawless as to be expected from sig.
my brother has a well used 226 that has served him well.

Knowing what to look for, I would consider a used one.

Good luck!
