Armed Citizens Welcome

Post by LedJedi »

ok, it's no secret that 30.06 miffs me a bit and i'll give any business that has that sign posted a piece of my mind (not that I have much left to pass out). I'm pondering something.

What about a small sign campaign with a little website letting business owners post little signs reading "Armed Citizens Welcome", etc. ?

I could do up graphics for signs that say armed citizens are preferred or welcomed and even do up additional signs for folks that present a valid CHL or NRA membership ID. I could have a few options that let you choose from a sign with a clipart gun and one with a graphic that's not a gun so it's maybe not so offensive to anti's?

what do you guys think? If i had a storefront i would put something like that up.

There was just such a campaign a few years back and it never really caught on. Their "trademark" was a green decal that said "CHLs Welcome" or something to that effect. Most businesses don't want to take a position on guns, which is exactly what the Building Owners and Management Association (BOMA) recommended after their convention in 1995. The recommendation was to "leave it to the State."

Since CHLs are such a small percentage of the population, there is no reason for a business to openly court their business and possibly alienate a larger percentage of their customers. I think not posting 30.06 signs is the best was can reasonably expect.

Don’t misunderstand, I’m not saying don’t do it. It just didn’t go anywhere the last time it was tried.

yep, i certainly don't expect many businesses to do it for the very reasons you cited, but i know there are some that would love to do something like that.

I'll make the artwork and my time available for those that want to. :)

I would guess a few gun stores might be interested.

But that's preaching to the choir.

May be preaching to the Choir but I preach to the choir every Sunday. They need it too & are the ones that talk to a lot folks that dont sing real well. ;-) It might work.

I look at it as the lack of a 30.06 sign is the same as a "CHL Holders Welcome".
I believe there is safety in numbers..
numbers like: 9, .22, .38, .357, .45, .223, 5.56, 7.62, 6.5, .30-06...

O6nop,

Excellent point.

I would love to see a CHL welcome sign though.

I know of one store owner who absolutely loves that many of his customers are CHLers.

I'll ask him next time I see him what his take is on such an idea.

Personally, I like the idea but the following should probably be corrected:

"...citizens legally exorcising their rights..." (from the aforementioned site)

"Exorcising" means "casting out" (as in demons, from one who is possessed) as opposed to "exercising" which implies using.

And "are hereby officially welcomed to these pureness." :?:

I wish I could view the actual signs available - the links either time out or lock up my (admittedly elderly) computer.....

All guns have at least two safeties. One's digital, one's cognitive. In other words - keep the digit off the trigger until ready to fire, and THINK. Some guns also have mechanical safeties on top of those. But if the first two don't work, the mechanical ones aren't guaranteed. - me

Don't ask, don't tell....

Just like the folks who post invalid 30.06's--I just ignore them. Why bother correcting them only to have them find a REAL 30.06 sign?

Ignorance is bliss, at least as far as a business not knowing if I am carrying my (legal) weapon.

Last year when I went to the AAA auto club in San Antonio to get my international driving permit for one of my frequent trips overseas, I first saw a "No guns" sign at the front door, but under the sign, it stated (in smaller letters) "does not apply to CHL holders" or words to that effect. I gladly gave them my business.

HA! funny, i murdered the original spelling and word corrected it to that and I didn't even notice. good catch. i'll fix that immediately.

I'll also add a few more signs as suggested here.

Thanks for the input guys.

gentlemen, you are looking for the TABC sign that says:
"Unlicensed possession of a firearm on these premises is a felony..."

It's posted at just about every restaurant, 7-11, and CircleK in the state.
Just smile and step on in..
