Convention of States?

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

Convention of States?

Post by RoyGBiv »

As of January 2017....
33 Republican Governors.
32 Republican led State legislatures. (13 Dem, 5 split.)

34 States needed to call a Convention.
38 States needed to ratify Amendments.

Maybe after 2018?

Just remember , Republicans are not united on this. Just because they are Republicans or conservative doesn't mean that they think this is a good idea.

That's a good thing, as it would serve to limit the scope of any Convention to just the issues a sufficient majority would agree upon.

0. Clarify 2A "infringe"...
1. Balanced budget
2. Fix the Commerce Clause
3. Subject regulatory agencies and their regulations to Congressional review
4.......

The 2016 Presidential election absolutely proves that we do not want a convention of the states!! That could not be more clear. Even if we got what we wanted in a convention proposal, which we most certainly would not, then it would never be approved.

I have heard about the call for the convention for years as the solution to the huge fedgov overreach. Those in favor of the convention claim that amending the constitution will bring the fedgov back in line with what the framers intended.

Washington ignores the constitution now. Washington will ignore further amendments.

A convention would also open the door to amendments we do not want.

Be very careful of what you ask for.
