Ohio passed campus carry

Post by warnmar10 »

Breitbart: On Monday Ohio Governor John Kasich (R) signed Senate Bill 199, thereby legalizing concealed carry on college and university campuses where school trustees vote to allow it.

...

SB 199 also removes a state ban on concealed carry in the public areas of airports and on carrying guns for self-defense at daycares.

"where school trustees vote to allow it"

It's a step in the right direction, but don't think this will be many schools.

Like the number of private colleges that opted in to campus carry in Texas: 0.

My SIL has her PhD and teaches at a private college in Texas and I asked her about carry on her campus. "We voted against it" she said and she is sure they are much safer. I don't argue with family.

If you can't argue with family, who can you argue with? Lol.

You don't have to argue to give them your point of view and point them toward facts/the truth. Then it's up to them.

Flightmare and Nuts, what can I say? My wife would kill me if I tried to use logic with her sister and I have 2 brothers in California that are almost as bad and you know how they voted. At least my wife is on my side, has her LTC and shoots better than I do. This is the world we live in with emotion greater than logic. I don't have to tell people on this forum.

Not familiar with the politics of the trustees/regents at public universities in Ohio. However, if it is anything like the University of Texas it will not pass as Chancellor McRaven and President Fenves were deadset against campus carry. They, however, had to approve it as our Texas legislature mandated it. My gut says the Ohio folks will opt out. Stay tuned...

No crazed gunman ever shot up a college/university, right?

No students were murdered because they were defenseless, right?

Good to know. Sounds just like how Missouri law is. Missouri law allows the school to decide to allow carry or not on their campuses. That is why a Mizzou professor being backed by the MO attorney general is suing because the school wont allow him to carry on campus.

I'm hoping here in Florida it passes this year but I'm not counting on it. We can't even pass open carry here. I expect campus carry to pass in Missouri. Jered Taylor is supposed to introduce a bill removing a lot of the gun free zones in Missouri like colleges, stadiums etc. Eric Greitens is governor and no longer need a super majority to have to worry about an override.

The only thing is about campus carry, what can stop from schools acting as a business simply put up a no guns allowed sign and simply tell you to leave if caught? Like in Missouri's case if schools are removed from the 17 prohibited locations, couldn't a school just simply post no gun signs? Then you have the private schools too who can regulate it even if the state prohibits public colleges from banning it.
