Army chooses Sig

Looks like the idiocy has started. I'll explain:
A little bit ago I made the decision to trade off a pistol for a p320. I'd been looking at them for awhile, hemming g and hawing. Made the leap to put my other pistol up for trade (5 days before the army's announcement) then all the p320's just disappeared. Saw a full sized used model for $1000 today. Lord, I hope it was a joke.

They have been for a year. Interest is definitely up. That's partly why the contract is so import to a manufacturer, beyond the directly measurable value. My back-order on certain 320 models is approaching scary numbers.

I saw one at the pawn shop yesterday (actually it was the Sig P320C). Price was $450. It came with box, everything from the factory, and night sights. Should I buy?

Depending upon condition, that's a good price w/ night sights. One thing to check is if it has Gen 1 or Gen 2 configuration. If Gen 1, see if you can haggle them down more than you plan to.

Sig Sauer Inc is an American company, now separate from Sig Sauer GmbH, and has really pushed the product line in interesting and fresh directions.

Yeah. Also, current Army pistol is by Beretta an Italian company, though I'm pretty sure all the govt contract guns are made in US.

So once the Army, Marine Corps, and Air force get their SIGs, the Navy can start replacing their 1911's (which saw action against the Kaiser) with the left over Beretta's....

Navy Fighter pilots had Beretta's when I was in back in the 80's.

Apparently, the complaints about the 9mm being too weak to be effective were either wrong or ignored by the Army.

I wonder what's the answer regarding their decision to stay with 9mm as their chosen pistol round?

Economics?

It's certainly less costly to shoot 9mm vs. a .45 caliber, and with a 9mm there's faster target reacquiring due to less recoil, but I do wonder why 9mm was kept as their chosen pistol round if it's not effective as some soldiers claim (or maybe they missed what they were shooting at a lot of times) and not some other caliber?

BTW, I like 9mm, I've 3 different firearms that shoot it.

I'm seeing a new full size 320 available at Buds for $499 right now, so yes I hope it was a joke. Maybe it had a lot of custom work done?

Great? That's too early to say. It's a good gun.

In my opinion, it's brilliant from a maintenance standpoint. The rest is all personal opinion or preference. Anecdotally, we've had many officers who have converted to the 320 from one platform or another and swear by it.

Since the Army announcement, it's getting millions in free advertising and public exposure.
