Some months back couple or three guys walked into local Walmart, grabbed a garbage can, swept $700+ worth of shampoo of the shelf, and walked out again.

Nobody got shot but one I heard of them getting caught either. Local WM seems to make no effort to stop thieves.
Why should they? We are paying for the theft when we shop there.

A long, long time ago when I worked in a 24 hour convenience store all workers were told if robbed give the robbers everything they asked for, nothing in the store was worth dying for, insurance coves the losses.

Shrinkage (theft, breakage, etc) is calculated as part of the price of doing business. And yes, the consumer is the one paying for it via higher prices.
The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

The last figures I saw was that Wal-Mart budgets in 1 billion dollars for theft, annually. They try to be proactive and do hire security for their stores, but they put their security people in a very untenable situation since they are not armed. They do prosecute shoplifters, and give a lifetime trespass warning to anyone caught, and that includes all of their stores as well as Sam's club. They do prosecute for trespassing if a former shop lifter is caught, but that is not as easy as it seems since they must verify that they were given a trespass warning in the first place.

All of that being said, with 1 billion dollars of their annual budget going to just cover loss, their customers must foot the bill for it along with the cost of security. These "smash and grab" thefts are very seldom prosecuted, because the penalty is so low, it's not worth the time and expense to first identify them, and then prosecute them, so that they will, more than likely, be given probation.
I'm sorry a young man lost his life, and the debate that it was over diapers, is irrelevant. They were more than likely going to be sold on the black market. He could have just as easily been killed in the attempted carjacking. He chose his line of work, and with it go the pitfalls of engaging in it. JMHO

Thats a task you do when you have no choice, its do or die, but going in knowing, your only reasonable hope is not not lose (die). your getting bloody no matter what. happy if it does not happen, but Id expect to get punched, cut and or shot in a 4:1 fight. Id also go into it with the mindset I was the one going to the hospital ER later, the 4 were going to the hospital basement.
