To the question: No, I've never heard of such a thing. "It just went off" is another way of saying "I messed up real bad".

Caddy-wompus is, in fact, a real Texas word, but it is usually considered bad form to use it east of Abilene or north of Highway 80....

Over in these parts, we use "Wonker-jawed" to describe the same condition.

Not familiar enough with the Colt Mustang. Some striker fired pistols have a trigger safety, which prevents the firing pin from hitting the primer unless the trigger is depressed. Some hammer fired guns have a safety notch to prevent the hammer from hitting the primer if the full cock sear breaks or fails.

The Colt Mustang is a "cut down" version of the Colt Gov't .380, which is itself a "kind of" mini-1911. Today it is also sold by Sig as a P238, among other variants.

I used to own a 150th Anniversary Edition Colt Gov't .380. It was finicky as heck, and I never developed the habit of carrying it because I didn't trust its reliability. I eventually traded it in on the purchase of a Springfield XDM-45 Compact 3.8.

Nobody there could understand it either. These were early model Glocks made in the late 80s. But we all witnessed it. It fired six times in a row just hitting the bottom of the mag. Pretty scary.
