Shield 45

Post by cmgee67 »

I did it! I ordered my shield 45 from my Local LGS. I decided I'd support local people. I like my money to stay here. Ordered the non safety version and they only had the one with the safety. It should be arriving on Tuesday and I get to go pick up my new friend. I'm excited to add a carry size 45 to the mix. I really like how the gun shoots from others I have shot and how it feels in the hand. The grip feels very good and has the new texture that was put on the M&p 2.0's. This gun came out before them so I guess they copied it in a sense. Or I guess it was a trial run more or less for the grip texture. Anyways I'm excited and had to share. This will be my first Smith and Wesson firearm that I have ever owned. I hope it's a good experience because I really like the looks and feels of their pistols and AR's. My dad has an M&p 15 and it's been 100% and just a great gun. I'm excited did I say that?

What's a good carry load? I typically use federal HST's in my 45's I have seen a large popularity in the Lehigh defense ammo such as the extreme defender by underwood. I would worry on over penetration with a solid copper projectile. I need to get some other suggestions of holsters. Right now i have an alien gear cloak tuck 3.0 that I could get a new shell for it in the mean time. But I have transitioned to owb a lot of the time now so I'll have to look for a good OWB

I'd suggest sticking with the Federal HST; if it ain't broken, well, ya know. ;-)

You may have already seen this, but there's some decent deals out there like:

I use Federal HST in my full size .45, but I recently bought some of the Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel Ammunition 45 ACP 230 Grain Jacketed Hollow Point. It works flawlessly and I like the results of the .38 Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel ammunition. I believe the Gold Dot Short Barrel ammunition should have the same results.
