CRT RADIO AD URGES DALLASITES TO CALL RAWLINGS TO STOP LEE STATUE “VANDALIZATION”
DALLAS – A sixty-second radio ad starting this morning takes aim at Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings and Councilwoman Jennifer Gates for trying to “vandalize” the monument to General Robert E. Lee in Lee Park.
The statue, by noted American sculptor Alexander Phimister Proctor, was dedicated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1936. Proctor also sculpted the General Sherman monument outside New York’s Plaza Hotel, that was restored by Donald Trump.
Referring to the Lee Statue, the ad, paid for by the Conservative Response Team, notes “today Mayor Mike Rawlings and Councilwoman Jennifer Gates are fighting to tear it down in a vile act of historical vandalism and political correctness gone crazy,” adding that “this statue is more than a historical monument, but a work of art.”
“Yet after three attempts to take down the statue, countless tax dollars wasted and one death, they’re not giving up...tell Rawlings and Gates to stop the vandalization of the General Lee Monument and protect this classic work of art. Now. Before it’s too late.”
“Dallasites have one last chance to stop the city government from removing this monument and vandalizing this work of art and that’s by forcing the council to act and undo their vote. People are outraged and understanding what is happening here. Our commercial aims to turn that frustration into results,” the group said in a statement, noting that the Dallas City Council will be meeting at 2 pm on Friday, September 15th at City Hall. to take public comment.
