Pawn shop finds - would you buy?

Sig SP2022 (latest gen), all black, one 15-round mag for $300

Ruger Single Six with faux ivory grips, 5.5" barrel, fixed Vaquero-type sights, no .22 mag cylinder for $250

Is the Ruger a two screw "New Model" or three screw "Old Model"? New Model used in good condition $250 would be an OK price. Maybe 300 if 95%+ condition. Old Model converted good condition 275-300 unconverted (no retrofitted transfer bar) $25 extra. An Old Model unconverted Super (Super has adjustable rear sights) Single Six Convertible w/ extra cylinder & bag in excellent condition sold for $411 on GB a couple of days ago. I paid $475 -525 for as NIB Super Single's 22/22mag two -three years ago. If they are in decent shape with minimum bluing loss (only high points) Ruger .22's seem bottom out at about $250. But there are sale out there for the anxious buyer that exceed those prices. If the revolver you're looking at is in good condition I'd pay $250.

I won't disagree with the logic for buying new for the warranty, but there are vintage and discontinued firearms that offer no option other than buying used. Sorry you're experiences nave been disappointing. I have had very good luck and most recently bought a 1977 S&W Model 27 .357 revolver with no issue.

Sorry you're experiences nave been disappointing. I have had very good luck and most recently bought a 1977 S&W Model 27 .357 revolver with no issue.

I've bought new, with warranty and have had issues. The manufacturer took care of anything I couldn't easily solve myself. I sometimes paid for shipping. The manufacturer covered shipping a little over half the time.

I've bought used, out of production guns (Mosin-Nagant's, etc) with no warranty service available. I have not had any issues with any of these "vintage" guns.

I have owned somewhere over 200 guns through the years, and have had issues with very few of them. Probably less than 5% in all. For all current production guns, the warranty service was the same whether I was the original buyer, or had bought it used. In my experience, every reputable gun manufacturer will service their guns without requiring that you are the one who sent in a "warranty card" or whatever. I will also note that problems with used guns have been much less common for me. I think this is largely due to the fact that these guns have been broken in. Most problems with guns show up early, and/or work themselves out during the break-in process.

The price on the Sig seems pretty good if the gun is in good shape. If in a pawn shop, they'll probably take a little less.

I don't think I've had as many guns as you through the years but I have bought many used, online and in person. I've never had a major problem with any used firearm I have purchased. I have sent several used firearms in for minor issues. S&W replaced the front sight that fell off on a SW9F some one gave. Also returned a Walther PPK for an extraction issue. Shipping to and from was paid by both companies and repairs were free. I bought a Charter Arms AR& Explorer on GB that had some light strikes and some FTF. I took it apart and discovered the hammer spring was installed incorrectly and it was an easy fix. Not related, but I've sent several pairs of used Bausch and Lomb binoculars I've purchased to Bushnell and they've always honored B&L lifetime warranty even replacing a pair of 10X40 B&L Discoverer binocs with a brand new pair of Bushnell Elite 10x40. On the other hand I had a problem (fogging) on a brand new Simmons 3-9X40 scope, but there was a flat $10 fee plus I had to pay shipping to and from. Since I only paid about $30-40 after rebates and discounts I didn't think it was worth it. I just put it on another .22 rifle I'll never take out in cold weather.
