Sheesh this turned crazy. I'm not going to fuel any fires here by airing my sentiment and opinion on the matter, but I will say this: If the NRA knows what the firearms policy is for Friday, they absolutely need to let everyone know. If they don't know it because the Secret Service is being all stupid about it (I wouldn't be surprised), they need to let everyone know THAT. Either way, the NRA being mum on the issue is making them look very bad, and it's only going to make the anti-NRA case stronger on both sides of the aisle.

"* Due to the attendance of the Vice President of the United States, the U.S. Secret Service will be responsible for event security at the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum. I guess I will not be making the trip to Dallas after all.

The Secret Service notice specifically states the "Arena"... think about it, if it was going to include the exhibit halls, then the vendors would have to clear out as well. Can't have any of those off limit items in the area, and that would include any being sold by vendors.

Why not? Were you just coming for the leadership forum on Friday?

Just off the phone with NRA. Call the NRA AM number at 1-877-672-7632.

Like every other time Secret Service has been involved at these, the ONLY area that has firearm and knife restrictions is the rooms the POTUS and VP will be in. It does NOT include the rest of the campus.

Lots of hyperventilating here both on this forum and in the media about the NRA banning guns.

Plain and simple, this isn't the NRA's decision. It's not the VPOTUS' decision. It's not the POTUS' decision. It is solely the Secret Service's decision. I'm not sure what is so hard to understand about that.

Are you implying the NRA could not have said "no thanks" to the President / VP?

We can debate whether the NRA made the right decision, but saying that they had no say in the matter is just disingenuous. Personally, I'm not hyperventilating, but I also will not be attending. There are very few things that I would willingly disarm for. And seeing the President / VP speak is not important enough to make that short list. Others are free to make a different decision on this.

The powers that be could have arranged that the POTUS and Vice POTUS, do their speeches from a secure location and posted live on screen. I realize it is not the NRA that has control over what happens during in person participation of POTUS and VPOTUS. It is the confusion that was allowed to continue until the last minute, this includes the disrespect shown by the City of Dallas. Meanwhile I will be enjoying myself without confusion, unless the umpires go to sleep during the games. (I carry at all games) I even carry at pro games because I can afford the best seat in the house ------ in front of my television. :tiphat:

What confusion? The policy has been posted for days! The only confusion was from people not reading what was posted. What disrespect by the city of Dallas? And having the POTUS and VPOTUS speak from a remote location does not make nearly the impact that having them come in person does!

Right, for days and questions have been asked for months. Just like Dallas leadership considered canceling NRA convention before they realized it would start a law suit they could not win. That is my opinion, and how I see it. Does not make it right or wrong for anyone to agree or disagree.

Yes, we know that the arena is definitely off limits, and I would *assume* that the rest of the area is OK. Again, it's an assumption. I've learned many times in the past, don't assume anything. There was confusion in the air, and the NRA did NOT do anything to clear it up. That only caused negative publicity to go their way, as if recent events haven't already done enough damage.

Right, for days and questions have been asked for months. Just like Dallas leadership considered canceling NRA convention before they realized it would start a law suit they could not win.
Questions about carry have not been asked for months... no none knew POTUS or VPOTUS was coming. The convention center policy regarding firearms has been posted for months, even longer... and that is to allow carry that follows state law.

And Dallas leadership? Who, Dwaine Caraway? One person? I believe he is the only council member that supported that view, but I could be wrong since I am not a Dallas resident and don't follow their city council issues that much.
