Not to take this off topic...but I wish this myth wouldn't be perpetuated as much as it is.

A strike to the groin can certainly be painful, but often times it is not immediately debilitating (if debilitating at all). I wouldn't count on it as a "fight stopper".

IMO, the scenario above (as proposed) warrants nothing more than calling the police and filing an assault charge.

Yes, I know.....the Macho/Chivalrous side of us males wants to stomp this guy until he's just a muddy hole in the ground. I will even turn my head while you do it.

But, from a legal standpoint...you would be on shaky ground and only make matters worse.

My .02 on it.

First, I apply a tourniquet to the bloody stump he drew back, then I call an ambulance for the medical care he probably needs after having a limb forcibly removed...

Seriously, I can't imagine anyone doing what you describe to my wife and pulling much more than a bloody stump back, but if he DID manage to do so, I would probably stand back & watch the fireworks until/unless she needed my help (she'll certainly let me know if she does). We don't very often allow ourselves to be in a position that such actions would be possible, though.

I think it's a good question. Especially since the "holiday season" (aka Christmas to most of us) is once again approaching, and seasonal activities tend to bring larger crowds everywhere one goes.

Wait ~1 minute then pull my wife off him before she kills him…she definitely does not like being touched without permission.

The biggest problem will be getting her to agree to leave all his body parts attached. “Sorry honey, you can’t bring his hand home as a souvenir

“No, you can’t have his eye either…yes, I know he has two, but he probably needs both…you know, there’s that whole stereo vision thing to take into account

“No, leave his tongue attached, he’s going to need it to tell the EMS folks where all the bones are that you broke

And then as we’re walking away after finally convincing her he had been properly chastised...

“I’m sorry to hear about the broken finger nail honey, but that sometimes happens when you try to pull a person’s spleen out through their nose

Nobody assaults my wife, espically in my presence.
I will do whatever it takes to keep that from happening.

HAving said that, my wife is quite the sparkplug and most likely wouldn't need any intervention from me.

It is my understanding, if you (a CHL holder) are an instigator and it escalates to deadly force,,, you are in deep trouble.

In short, if you through the first punch, you better not touch your gun. Regardless of scenario.

And, I am glad to know I am not the only one who ponders these scenarios…

Not always true. I used to take martial arts, and I can say with certainty that, while such a strike HURTS, it's NOT always debilitating. I fought through several matches where I got kicked there. I always kept going; in fact, the first few times it happened, I got mad and kicked the snot out of my opponent.

I don't mean that it's not a valid defensive technique; but do be aware that, like pepper spray, a kick to the groin doesn't always work.

I'll disagree here as well. This has happened more than once in my younger days. It happened in conflicts of jest (towel fights in the locker room, play fights with female friends, etc.), and each time it served to embolden me rather than debilitate me. Each time I gained the upper hand shortly thereafter.

Seriously though. If a man is willing to assault a lady I don't think he will back off a confrontation.

The way I see a scenario is like this.

Your out somewhere, your not necessarily close to your wife. Lets say your at a carnival or event. You need to go to restroom, your wife waits for you outside. You walk out and see the assault take place. Any of us would probably run, push man away or grab him or sock him in the face. What if he doesn't just back away and run? and there you are in a wrestling match in public? what if he gets to your Weapon? That is disaster waiting to happen.

Seriously this scenario is HIGHLY unlikely to ever happen but with the amount of perverts and psychos out there you never knows. This scenario could also be switch with say your teenage daughter. You hear so much on the news this days about girls just being grabbed and taken away and later raped or something.

Pepper spray, until it was empty.

Though my instant aggravation says that he owes me a few of his teeth.

What happens when you're a 60yr old with bad knees and a bad ticker and the assailant is a 6'6" 275lb 21yr old?

I have edited 3 posts in this thread for "light profanity" or euphemisms.
Please clean it up to standards on this forum or I will lock it.

If teenager is grabbed, thats attempted to aggravated kidnapping. I think its pretty clear when you come out of the restroom and seeing the guy dragging her with her screaming, it be me shouting him to let her go while i unholster but not ready to point.

this situation actually happened to me, sort of.

it was with my ex-wife nearly 10 years ago. we were young and into the bar scene. I did not have a CHL and (obviously) was not carrying. on the way back from the bathroom, this guy grabbed her (edited)

when she got back to the table (me and another friend, a girl), she announced "that guy just grabbed my (edited again) It was almost like she was proud of it (one reason why she is my EX-wife, but I digress).

anyway, I go up to the guy and ask if he did what ex-wife tells me he did. At the time I am 5'10" and 170. He's at least 6'4" and 250+. He says nothing and just pushes me away...hard.

Immediately the bouncers intervene and escort him out. For years later I beat myself up for not just punching the guy in his teeth (or kicking him about 2 feet south). After 10+ years of hindsight, I think I probably made the right decision.

I was thinking just the other day what I would do if the situation happened again with my current wife (and the fact i have my CHL and carry religiously).

My decision would be pretty easy, actually. First order of business would be to pull my current wife off the guy before she gouged his eyeballs out. Then I'd call the police and have wifey file assault charges against dufus. But...I'd be ready to deploy my pistol if the behemoth tried to come at me. there is no way I'd get into a fist fight with a guy 6" taller than me and outweighing my by 70 pounds.
