Louisiana carry question

Post by ScubaSigGuy »

I am sure that I can find this somewhere but I am running short on time.

I will be taking a trip to Shreveport this week. I will of course be carrying and I will be staying at one of the casinos, because it's free.

My question is can I legally enter the hotel and lobby area with my concealed sidearm and secure it in my room? I obviously know that I can't walk into the casion area, but since they are seperate I am assuming that I can carry in the hotel area.

I know that I can't carry at restaraunts there but are there any other seemingly normal (to Texans) areas that I can't carry? I remember reading in another post that the riverwalk is off limits, so I won't be goping there.

I lived there for over ten years but didn't have a CHL becasue I could carry in my car, so i am not sure of thier laws. Thanks.

You can carry in the hotel and restaurant areas. To be off limits for carry, it has to be off limits to minors.

This is a popular misconception oft repeated. Unfortunately, repeating it doesn't lend it any truth.

While the Louisiana CHL statutes specifically address locations with Class A permits, RS14:95.5 is still on the books, and forbids firearms ANYPLACE where liquor is sold for on-premise consumption, regardless of whether that is the primary business conducted.

It's in direct conflict with the intent of the CHL law, but remains on the books.

I wouldn't hesitate to carry in the hotel area. As for restaurants...if I'm not going to be drinking I'm of the "tried by 12 vs. carried by 6" school of thought, but again, that doesn't necessarily mean I'm legal.
