Just was gifted a S&W Model 27-2 with a 3 1/2” barrel. It has a target hammer and trigger. It is pinned and recessed. It came in a very nice wooden presentation box with the S&W “tool kit.”

Wow! The 3.5" N frame is the best looking firearm S&W ever made. All it needs is a correct set of wood grips to be perfect. Someone REALLY likes you.
It's fine if you disagree. I can't force you to be correct.

A pistol without a round chambered is an expensive paper weight.

Beautiful gun!
Re: S&W Model 27-2
Sweet! I had a 3½" Blued that I bought in 1968. Target trigger and Hammer like yours. Other than a Colt Python it was the smoothest revolver I ever owned. It was stolen in 1995 along with most of my guns and it was never recovered, though I did get one back from the PD and actually bought one on Gun Broker. I bought a 3½" Nickel plated a few years ago at a pawn shop while visiting my daughter in Mansfield. It was in the presentation box, with only the screw driver missing. Made in 1978 a few years after my stolen 27. I think the 3½ is the ultimate N frame S&W . I have a 5" 27 that was give to me by a friend so we have something in common. I know you will shooting that beauty. You must be living right! LOL

Re: S&W Model 27-2
After doing a lot of reading and looking at a lot of photos it appears the S&W used the Hogue Greips towards the end of production. I have a set of the wood target grips in my storage boxes. Moving has displaced some things, but I know where this box is. Also I have seen some with the larger target grips and then some with the small wooden grips. Any help would be very appreciated.LDB415 wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 12:20 pm Wow! The 3.5" N frame is the best looking firearm S&W ever made. All it needs is a correct set of wood grips to be perfect. Does anyone know if S&W will date guns (history) with the serial number like Colt does?

Honestly this is a struggle for me. This gun has not been fired. That being said I have NO safe queens. Never been able to keep an unfired gun around for to long.puma guy wrote: Thu Jan 15, 2026 9:24 pm Sweet! I had a 3½" Blued that I bought in 1968. Target trigger and Hammer like yours. One side of me would want to leave a perfect example as a perfect example. The other side would want to shoot the finest gun S&W ever made. And either option of wood grips would look great on it. Especially for keeping mint in box. For shooting I'd probably want the large grips. Tough, tough decisions.

Roy Jinks was the go to for the history letters last I checked. Unaware of his current status.carlson1 wrote: Fri Jan 16, 2026 2:31 amAfter doing a lot of reading and looking at a lot of photos it appears the S&W used the Hogue Greips towards the end of production.
