Just bought a cheap Marine Grade shotgun for my truck
I saw this shotgun on CDNN so I checked the reviews. I had a JC Higgins Model 20 12 ga pump SG for my truck that was stolen while I was at my daughter's home a couple of years ago by some workers while I was there to help while her firefighter husband was recovering from knee surgery. There children's schools were 15 miles apart in opposite directions. She is an ER nurse in New Braunfels and was working many of the days I was there so I had to take and pick up the kids at school. While I was there three workers that had started the freeze repairs on their house were there to finish a few things from the horrific job they has done after being given an ultimatum. I had my SG in my truck and thoughtlessly left it unlocked. I didn't notice it was gone for several days. I really loved that SG, I bought it at a garage sale for $60. The barrel was shorted to 20" and the magazine held 5 rounds and had a mag cut-off to enable changing a load. Sorry to bore you with that. After that I carry my 12ga Mossberg Shockwave as my truck gun and being much more expensive always worried about losing it. Cut to this morning when I got an email from CDNN about cheap SG's and saw the TR Import XP15 Marine SG for $119.53. Total with tax and shipping $157. Marine coating, 20" Cylinder Choke Bbl, Forward Assist pump action. 4-1 capacity, cheap sling swivels.

I have not been able to access the forum since I posted about this shotgun. I always got a "forbidden" notice on an otherwise blank screen, Obviously it's working for me now. I picked it up and used the free range perk to try it out with some buckshot. I had some slugs, but I remembered they don't allow slugs so couldn't try them. I had Spartan 9 pellet 00 Buck, Rio 21 pellet #4 Buck and Winchester #4 shot ammo. All 2 ¾". I have some Federal Flite Control 2¾" #1 Buck and some Federal 12 pellet 2¾" 00 Buck, but I couldn't find it. And yes Federal makes a 12 Pellet 00 Buck shell in 2¾" It patterned well with nice spreads even a 7 yards with all the shells and the 50ft shot with 00 buck was all nine on the B27 target. It's very light, so the recoil is quite noticeable, It has a spring assisted pump action that I ain't crazy about so I'm going to remove that spring. I guess if you were in a situation with one good arm it would be an advantage. It had no malfunctions in the 15 rounds I shot. Overall all I give it an "A", especially given the price. I misplaced the targets so no photos.

Thanks for the report. There has been a period of 2 to 3 weeks when I was getting the "forbidden" message also. I don't know why.

Note that it's alloy steel, not stainless, but for the price, heck of a deal for sure...
Decent review here... they liked it a lot.. good comments on the spring assist..

Ok Marine grade. You know I’m a real novice at all this.
Good enough for a US Marine to use in combat, or suitable for use and storage near the Gulf of America?
I saw stainless mentioned. I’m a big fan of stainless, since I have found almost everything deteriorates rapidly near the Gulf.

You are correct, sir! BTW philip, Stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion, but not completely and can rust.RoyGBiv wrote: Sun Apr 12, 2026 1:35 pmNOT stainless... Galvanizing just delays the rust, what a year.
Plastic does not rust, but it has other issues.
Wood and treated wood evaporates.
Gold, however, is forever.

If I wanted a saltwater boat gun, 316 stainless is the way. Even 304 will rust given enough time and salt air.
