My third renewal CHL arrived yesterday, 24 November. That was exactly 6 weeks after I took the renewal class on 13 October (at On Target, Fort Worth) and 2 days short of 6 weeks (15 October) since I mailed the material to Austin. This license is good until my birthday (15 March) in 2013!
May be my last one. I'll be 88 years old in the year 2013!
This was my longest wait for a renewal license. My first renewal was in 1999 for a license that expired in March, 2000. That one took only 22 days.
The 2003 renewal was 26 days.
I got my first CHL in 1995, effective after 1 January 1996. Trained with the old Shooters Palace in Fort Worth. That one took slightly over 5 months. Various paper work problems, including fingerprint retakes. The program was brand new and there were snags and snarls to deal with. All of us, the DPS, the training academies and instructors, and students were in a "learn as you go phase."
Regards to all.

Outstanding, "junior member," keep on shootin'! By the way, you've now officially become my role model.Navydoc wrote:This license is good until my birthday (15 March) in 2013! May be my last one. I'll be 88 years old in the year 2013! -Navydoc

I hope you don't get a batch of "bad karma" by picking an old goat like me as a role model. I'll try to steer you in the right direction. Just remember, "the first 80 years are the toughest, after that it gets impossible!"

bigolbigun; Roger that, I totally enjoyed the class at On Target and I agree that George is sure to keep one chuckling and learning.
He's good. The On Target class was the best of the four I've attended.
My class had 14 people. There were 3 of us getting renewals and there were 2 women in the class. I was happy to see them. There were a couple of really young guys. Maybe early 20s. That was good news too.
Thanks to both of you for your comments. With guys like you two around I feel good about our future and know my generation is leaving our "guns and gear" in good hands.
Thanks again.
