Another primer question

Post by Target1911 »

I have had few primers fall out of the case after they are fired. Usually it happens when the hit the ground but it happened tonight twice, while shooting IDPA, and it jamed up my gun.

45acp
mixed brass
Federal primers
230gn LRN moly coated
3.8gn Titegroup

Forgive me but I am still somewhat new to reloading......are there different sizes of Large pistol primers or is it just loose primer pockets?

Have you (or the person who owned the brass before you) aggressively over-swaged the primer pockets? This is the only thing I can think of that would make spent primers fall out of spent brass.
The last train out of any station will not be filled with nice people.

I have had the same thing happen. It means the brass is worn out.

the only thing I do to the brass is pick it up, clean it, load it, shoot it. I dont touch the primer pockets.

I agree with Steve. Any case that is missing the primer or has it sticking way out after firing, I toss.
Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.

I smash them with pliers before I toss them so nobody else will try to use them.

I have a 5 gal bucket that all trash brass (bad cases and spent primers) goes into that I periodically take to a recycler to sell.

How much does brass go for at the scrap yard these days?
