Romney just messed up
On "Meet the Press" I just heard Romney say he would support a renewal of the original AWB. He also said that if at some future time some weapon of "unusually lethality" was "identified" he could support a ban of something like that as well.
Since hand held laser and particle beam weapons are still in the distant future, I can only believe he was referring to firearms.
So it seems like if some group of gun grabbers decide to demonize some particular type of gun, they could talk Romney into supporting a ban of it.
So he just scratched himself off my list for the primaries.
But I still say that if he ends up getting the nomination I will vote for him over any Democrat. That's because we are one Supreme Court justice away from UN tyranny, and one FCC commissioner away from banning political speech from the airwaves (except for Big Media).
And voting for the "Slow Wheat" candidate is not a viable option.

messed up?
Heck, he's been saying he supports an AWB for years now. He's just a donkey in elephant's clothing.

Yep a RINO by any other name is still a RINO and there are a few more out there also .
Re: Romney just messed up
Frankie, I am happy we agree that Romney does not deserve our vote in the primary.
Let him go back to minding his hedge fund/SIV/venture capital business, that is what he seems to do best.

This leaves me with either Thompson or Huckabee in the primary. I like Tancredo and Hunter too but they aren't getting enough support to have a decent shot.
Right now, I'm leaning towards Thompson. I like his position on gun rights and I really like his appreciation of federalism.

What I've been considering lately is that I may, when the primary comes, feel like I can do more by voting against Hillary in the Democratic primary than by trying to pick the best of the Republicans.
You should have seen my buddy's face when I told him I might vote for Obama!

By the time of the Texas primary, the winner is (usually) already known, so a saboteur vote in the Democrat primary is always an option.Mike1951 wrote:What I've been considering lately is that I may, when the primary comes, feel like I can do more by voting against Hillary in the Democratic primary than by trying to pick the best of the Republicans.

I did it back in the '90's. In the precinct as they were drawn then, I cast the only vote from my precinct in the Dem primary.
Just for grins, I attended the meeting after the polls closed and appointed myself precinct chairman.
I didn't take it further, though.

So you disagree with Washington, Madison, and Jefferson? That's a shame.frankie_the_yankee wrote:Paul's foreign policy doesn't float my boat.
I would like you to take a few minutes to read a speech delivered in Boston's Faneuil Hall. Sunday, December 16, was the 234th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party. Jim Forsythe, a former KC-135 jockey (still a reservist, I think) and current aerospace engineer from New Hampshire, was in Boston to speak at the commemoration:
I can’t wear my uniform and make a political speech, so instead I’ll just place my desert boots here to remind us all of our soldiers who have served throughout our history, and are currently serving in the Middle East.
On this historic day, I ask you to imagine that we are the 11,000 soldiers camped out with General George Washington at Valley Forge in the winter of 1777. We come from every state in the Union. We are as young as 12, as old as 60, and come from all walks of life. Look around at your fellow patriots. Pick out four people. By the end of winter, one of them will probably be dead. It might be you. Yet despite your tragic loss this winter, you will be joined by others, and in three long arduous years, you will defeat the British Empire, despite overwhelming odds. You have come here today despite the risk to your life, because you believe that Liberty is a cause worth fighting for. In the words of John Stark, a New Hampshire Patriot, you believe that we should “Live Free or Die, Death is not the worst of evils.
But all this sacrifice could have been for nothing if the founding fathers had chosen to set up a government as despotic as the one that they rebelled against. This is exactly what happened to the French and the Russians after their revolutions - they traded one tyrant for another. Instead, the founding fathers set up a Constitutional Republic, binding the government in the chains of the Constitution. Our first President, George Washington voluntarily stepped down after two terms, setting up a tradition that lasted until President FDR. We owe an immense debt of gratitude to these men who risked everything and sacrificed so much. We should heed their words and their warnings, and reflect on how our country has lived up to their expectations.
He goes on, and it's a beautiful speech, an excellent reminder of what America is supposed to be about. Read the rest: http://www.dailypaul.com/node/14526

And wasn't it Jefferson who sent the Marines to kick the butts of the Barbery Coast pirates?

GOV. ROMNEY: Let's describe what it is. I signed--I would have supported the original assault weapon ban. I signed an assault weapon ban in Massachusetts governor because it provided for a relaxation of licensing requirements for gun owners in Massachusetts, which was a big plus. And so both the pro-gun and the anti-gun lobby came together with a bill, and I signed that. And if there is determined to be, from time to time, a weapon of such lethality that it poses a grave risk to our law enforcement personnel, that's something I would consider signing. There's nothing of that nature that's being proposed today in Washington. But, but I would, I would look at weapons that pose extraordinary lethality...
