Could your LAST name..............

Post by Target1911 »

have anything to do with your wait time? I have been told that when you buy a gun and they do the back ground check, that having a COMMON last name could cause you to be delayed. The reason being, if your last name is Smith or Jones (names that take up 5 pages of the local phone book) they must make sure that you are YOU. Does this hold true when getting your CHL too?

Lets compare.....if you wish.

My last name is Hedge (not very common). I mailed my packet in on 12-9. I am still waiting for my pin.

There are (now) 6 people in Texas with my last name. It was up to 8 while my brothers were in town over Christmas. Took over 110 days for me to get my CHL processed and I have a spotless record. Never delayed on a NICS check either.

I think that, unless your last name is Bin Laden, you probably are OK...

Two guys at work have names identical to some criminals who killed their families then themselves. The security clearance of the guys at work were not affected.

I am sure it goes alot more off of your social security number then your last name. Now if someone had stollen your ID, that could be a problem I'm sure.

Criminal Records are more on NAME/DOB. DPS sends a Trooper into the county where you live to physically search the criminal records there. I imagine that is what takes the most time.

My wife and I share the same last name, and sent our apps in on the same day with return receipt requests, which came back in the same mail, but our CHLs arrived (mine first) a week apart.

Our renewals worked similarly.
