Got made (?) this evening.
We went out to dinner this evening at local hamburger place. As I was paying, the gentleman in back of me asked if I was police. I said "no" and then he asked then "what you got on your back?" I told him I'd rather not talk about it. His comment was "Hey if your legal I have no problem."
I was wearing cargo pants, a loose t-shirt, with a Bersa .380 in a tuckable holster. I was wearing the shirt tucked and had checked before I left the house. The only thing that was showing was the clip on the holster. I have a High Noon Hidden Ally and the clip is pretty good sized. I checked again when I got home. No printing, a slight bulge at about 4:30 on the right hip with no discernible barrel or grip.
Did I just get a really observant guy, an off duty LEO, or should I ditch the holster for a more discrete tuckable?

Re: Got made (?) this evening.
sounds like you are going to have to get a smaller clip, I had the same holster and the clip is big I always clipped mine on the pants and put my belt over the main part of the clip.
I think he was just standing there looking at you in line and saw something he was thinking was a gun but wasn't sure.
i would just chuck it up to a busy body and not worry about it.

If he made you based on only the holster clip, then you got someone else who was carrying. I wouldn't worry about it at all.frreed wrote:Did I just get a really observant guy, an off duty LEO,...

I am not a fan of the "tuckable" style holster.
I'm not surprised you got made.

Re: Got made (?) this evening.
You can always take a dremel to the clip and narrow it down a bit. I myself just wear my shirt untucked. I can see how you made by just the clips but I wouldnt worry about it so much. As you said, I am sure that he was like minded.

Probably an observant rude guy. The holster you have is a quality holster. Don't get rid of it if you like it. You did fine on the conversation. Illegal carry seldom ever, Ever, EVER use a holster & NEVER a quality one. If he made you by the clip he knew what it was & should have given you a quiet "Nice Rig" or something of that nature.
Do what you are doing.
Put it on.
Cover it up.
Leave it alone.
No one will notice.
Good job.

Re: Got made (?) this evening.
I use the "V" clips on my tuckable (C-TAC). If you don't know what they are, they are clips that go over the top of the pants and down between the pants and belt, and stop. The do not wrap around the top or bottom of the belt. The clip has velcro hooks on it, you glue or sew a strip of velcro loops on the inside of the belt. When properly adjusted, the clip does not show at all --- a slight blousing of the shirt covers up the portion that goes over the top of the pants. I also found the V Cliip to provide a much more solid attachment than any of the other arrangements.
Probably a very unusual occurance that the guy even noticed, but I notice the belt clips too, and it always bugged me. So I switched to the V clips.

I don't understand the thinking (or lack thereof) of someone who would say something like that. What was he going to do if he decided you weren't "legal"?frreed wrote:We went out to dinner this evening at local hamburger place. As I was paying, the gentleman in back of me asked if I was police. How is a large obvious clip different than this? http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... 53&t=11463

...a Bersa .380?!? Pocket carry that bad-boy. It will save you a lot of trouble. Just my opinion, though.

Re: Got made (?) this evening.
I'm so fat that, much of the time, all I can do is keep it covered and hope they don't notice. No matter how I carry, it sticks out somewhere, even with much larger clothing. So, if the guy said something like that to me, I'd answer him in the same manner that I answered the last rude dude that commented: "Two things you don't ask a lady are her age and her carry status." Then, just turn around and ignore him from that point on. If he continues, I'd ask him: "Do you want to get us both killed? Then, shut up." If he continued, like one I met recently when taking our GD to get her fingerprints, I'd just walk away and leave. It's not worth it, IMHO. There are lots of places to eat without rude dude.

Re: Got made (?) this evening.
A clip could be anything: blackberry, cell phone, etc. I carry in a tuckable holster all the time, and no one says anything. One CHLer at church is always trying to figure out where I'm carrying, and the holster clip doesn't appear to give me away even then.boomerang wrote:How is a large obvious clip different than this? http://www.texasshooting.com/TexasCHL_F ... 53&t=11463
Also, your holster was sticking out when your arms were down. This becomes problematic when reaching an upper shelf in a store.
Longtooth can direct you to some pictures of his rig that you might like. He wears a high-rise holster OWB. It is secure and comfortable for most men. My dad now has a high-rise OWB for two different carry guns; he likes this method that much.
My husband also prefers this method, although it will be awhile before he can wear a belt again.

Re: Got made (?) this evening.
Thanks for the feedback. My overall take on it was that I had a rude busy-body.
I occasionally pocket carry, but I am a cyclist with overly large thighs. With the exception of really baggy cargo shorts, you can read the serial number on my Bersa if I pocket carry. (That was a hyperbolic example. I always us a holster when pocket carrying. Unfortunately it only makes matters worse.)

I know the feeling. I have the same problem (cyclist / runner here).frreed wrote:I occasionally pocket carry, but I am a cyclist with overly large thighs.
