Heard of this Invasion Proofing for wood front doors?

Post by daddySEAL »

Anyone heard of this Invasion Proofing for solid core wood front doors?
http://www.invasionproof.com/film.html

Looks like a cool concept...and I bet it works well.
But why need to be 5 feet long?

Does anyone know of a similar item (maybe 3 feet long....for HALF that high price????

Ideas anyone?
(BTW I have a complete Security Alarm System also)

I don't have any full length glass doors like that, so I'm not sure that it would be necessary in my house, but it does look like a good idea, plus it could lower your energy costs.

I had some one try to kick in my front door. It cracked the frame around the door a little bit, but he/she did not get in. I had replaced the screws in the dead bolt and doorknob plate with 3" screws. After the attemped break in, I put 3" screws up and down the frame. If nothing else, if someone tries to kick my door in, it will take a bit of time. If I am there, it will give me time to break out the 870. I like the design of that contraption, but I think you could buy a piece of metal plate, drill it out and cut hole for your knobs..... I think I will give it a try.

I had some neighbors get broken into last year-the BG's kicked in the back door, thankfully they were not home. LEO caught the crooks a couple of weeks later in an adjacent neighborhood!

That's what I was thinking, but I'd need a Unibit or similar to make the larger holes. 3.5" screws every 6" holding the plate to the frame, and maybe a matching unit on the door itself, along with 3.5" screws for the hinges should make the door pretty tough to defeat.

The roll-on window tint you can get at wal-mart or other auto-parts stores will do just as well, and be much cheaper.

When you build your house just build the door frame out of 4" channel and your door out of 2 seperate pieces of 3/4 inch plate welded together. That should stop them!!!!!!! :coolgleamA: (If anyone needs the parts tell me. I sale steel. )

Strap iron from Home Depot, plus a Dremel tool properly wielded, yields a similar result, all I did was paint it well when I was done.

BTW, this sort of thing was mentioned at a Citizens' Police Academy that I attended a while back.

Well, then, how much would it cost to get such a door/frame assembly prefabricated, and what warranty would you offer on the hinges?

If it's hung and anchored to the slab properly, it could be well worth the expense to get video of a burglar making an attempt.

Oh I don't fabricate I just sale the steel. I work for an upstream oil supply business. We mfg and sale drilling rigs (offshore and land), cranes, boats, motors, generators, equipment, and parts. One of the big lines of product we sale is steel. Any size plate from 8 ft x 40 ft up to 10 inch thick on down to 48 inch x 96 inch in gauge widths. But I'll throw some prices out there....

A sheet of 3/4" steel (4 ft x 8 ft) will run around $615.00.

A joint (20 ft) of 4 inch beam will run around $57.00.

Your going to have to use roll pins instead of a regular hinge to hold it up those will be about $25-$30 a piece and you would need about 4.

Then if you couldn't weld you would have to contract a welder. The going rate is $45 per hour.

Oh and to coat it I would suggest POR-15 or a Tnemec coating system. That would probably run around $125 with enough left over for some other projects. That stuff is tough though and don't be suprised if a hurricane comes, slams a car into the door, and the paint doesn't chip.

With all that they would have an easier time just driving through the wall. On the flip side of driving through the wall, conrete home construction is becoming more and more common place so you can go with an 8 inch thick exterior wall reinforced with steel. You will actually have a home that is impervious to most hurricanes, tornadoes etc, as well as very energy efficient. Next on windows you can use a 1/2 thick plexi or impact resistant glass with tinting. Down on the coast I saw one guy get some nice wooden storm shutters from Lowes. Then he took some 1 inch grating and mounted the storm shutters to them, then mounted them to the house on a hinge. So when a storm came or he knew he was going to be gone for a while he would shut them and they had a hasp system built on the was barely noticable. A D-ring secrued them from inside the house. All that and your talking about a serious "castle"! :woohoo

Okay let me get this right, they can't break down the front door, ooooo i feel so safe now, that thing would give me extra time to either grab my shotgun,AR15 for bigger threat before they broke a window out and came in.If people think that thing will stop a determined burglar or somebody out to do you harm they better wake up fast,It's a speed bump, the window tint on windows will slow somebody down too the glass shatters but stays together then they gotta try to rip a hole through the plastic to get in
It is said that if you line up all the cars in the world end-to-end, someone would be stupid enough to try to pass them

Sometimes those few extra seconds can really count. If a person determined to get into my house did in fact gain forced entry, that someone, after making a huge racket, would have to come up 2 flights of stairs to get to my master bedroom. IMHO any extra time is worth a few extra bucks in some anti-home invasion gadgetry. During this time, my alarm will also be going off as well. Anything that comes thru my bedroom door will get hit with more than just another speedbump. It's more like hitting a brick wall from the 870 Police magnum.

Sleep well!! :-)
