Dallas PD officer killed...

Post by kw5kw »

Was just watching CBS11 and apparently a Dallas PD officer was killed today while escorting Hillary.

link: http://cbs11tv.com/local/clinton.motorc ... 60392.html

link has video and this story:
cbs11 wrote: DALLAS (CBS 11 News) ― A Dallas police motorcycle officer crashed and was killed Friday while escorting the Hillary Clinton motorcade to a campaign rally.

The officer, a 20-year veteran of the department, was killed in the accident.

Sources say the officer was relatively new to the motorcycle division.

Chopper 11 was over the scene and showed emergency medical technicians working to save the officer. The crash happened on the Houston Street viaduct, between Oak Cliff and downtown Dallas.

Senator Clinton was told about the deadly crash shortly after her campaign stop ended. Speaking soon afterwards, Clinton said, "We are just heartsick over this loss of life in the line of duty. I have asked that my condolences be conveyed to the family. I am going to call the family, and I have placed a call to the chief of police expressing my sympathy."

CBS 11's Steve Pickett, who attended the rally, said that even after Senator Clinton made her comments about the officer's death, most people in the crowd seemed to have no idea that the wreck had occurred.

I'm sure all of us feel a tremendous loss in the tragic death of this motor Officer. A vetern of the DPD, the Officer had only been with the motorcycle unit a relatively short amount of time.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and co-workers of the DPD family.

My heartfelt sympathies and prayers to the family and friends of the officer. I hope he gets the same farewell from across the state that our fallen officers did in September '07. :patriot: :txflag:

Exactly; whether by accident or by design, if you stop for any reason you are vulnerable.

Know what your saying....and she indicated (actually John Wiley Price who was in vehicle with Sen Clinton), that she wanted to stop; however, Secret Service immediately said no-way. The Senator is visiting with family now at the hospital. While this may have happened before...it's still tough when in your own backyard!!

In the future, she should insist on being escorted only by armed felons so as not to risk any officers.

The circumstances seem a bit odd though; I haven't seen any explanation as to why he crashed.

From what I read in the Austin paper, he clipped a curb as he was coming around a corner.

From what I saw on tv news video, it looked maybe on curve with lots of taller vertical concrete in the area. When I first heard about it, I suspected another vehicle was involved, but evidently not the case.

Apprently he was on a bridge that rises as you come around the curve. It has a fairly high lip up to the sidewalk, with a wall on the outside. Apprently he hit the curb on the left after coming around the curve, then into the wall and was thrown off the bike and about 20 yards on forward down the street.

Toward the end of this video you can see the curve he was coming around on the right side of the video.

Prayers for the family, friends, and fellow officers at the tragic loss.
