Need Recommendation For Range - Dallas Area

A single female friend of my wife and I has expressed an interest in learning to shoot. She lives in Cedar Hill near Dallas.

We'll be visiting with her in about a month and I'm willing to teach the basics of handgun shooting.

That being said, I haven't a clue as to what range, in her general area, would be best for this effort. We would of course be willing to travel some... (100 miles or so if necessary)

Anyone have suggestions?

I'm trying to think of places close to you, maybe Bullseye Range in Duncanville: http://www.bullseyerandg.com/ or DFW Gun Range (http://www.dfwgun.com) on 35 and Mockingbird. Never been to either one I'll admit, and I hear mixed reviews on DFW Gun Range, but at least they're close.

If you're OK with travelling a little further, Targetmasters in Garland (http://www.targetmasters.com) or Bullet Trap in Plano (http://www.bullettrapinc.com) are good places.

Bullseye in Duncanville is a good place to shoot. It's just north of Cedar Hill. That's where I do most of my target practice. The staff is friendly and will help with beginers. Resonable prices on range, too. $12 for as long as your wrist and ammo lasts! They do get crowded on Saturdays. They are, unfortunately, closed on Sunday. Hope this helps.

Check out the new and improved Elm Fork Range in Irving/Los Colinas. TJ has done wonders to that place and capital has been spent!

TJ runs Tiger Valley, and offers classes in just about everything. Just google Tiger Valley and see what classes are available or contact him for some small, private instruction.

I used to shoot at Target Master when I lived in the Dallas area. (That's where I took my CHL class, in fact.) I like it there.

I've been a member of The Bullet Trap, DFW Gunrange, and Targetmaster (all are indoor ranges). Only problem with Targetmaster is their shooting lanes are really getting rundown & equipment broken. I want to renew my membership there this April but probably will go back to DFW gunrange based soley on the condition of Targetmasters range equipment. They are nice and friendly but their unwillingness to keep the lanes in good working order is a bad decision as far as I'm concerned. Still, if you are in the area, it's a place to shoot and like I said, everyone is friendly. I've never been there when it was overly crowded.

It looks like Elm Fork is in the running as we'll need an outdoor range. Our friend has asma (sp?) and an indoor range (mucho gun smoke) might cause her some breathing trouble.

I drove out there last week and was stunned as to both the amount and quality of improvements that he's done so far - and they're not finished yet.

I'm a member of PSC and would of course prefer to train our friend there, but she can't come down as she has a new job that simply won't let her at this time.

That being said, I'm looking for a range that'll let me train her without their being overly controlling, as we have at PSC, i.e., we're our own safety officers.

I didn't think of that until now...

That aside, the noise issues that are inherent in indoor ranges really makes an outdoor range a better learning/teaching environment, I think. You also tend to have a bit more room to maneuver at an outdoor range.

Targetmaster has changed out all the equipment on the pictol side and believe about finished with rifle side. On pistol....they changed out the target motors and the backdrop material toally to new format. Much quieter than before and new a/c units put in last summer seemed to circulate the air pretty well...Nice place and family owned
