Guess Ill sit a spell!

Post by asleepatthereel »

The wait begins. My wife and I took Tom Esteps class on the 9th and sent the papers in on Monday. The wait will be slow for me, because I had written my PIN on the envelope that my wife sent in. Not only that, she sent all the papers in because she didnt want to leave anything out, so I dont even have my license # to use to get my PIN sent! :boxing I think I can call Tom or Tami to get the # though and I will try that tomorow.

Does anyone have a good lead on a source for holsters in Houston? I have tried the usual places, and I cant find anything specificly for my Ruger P345, or a pocket holster for my Bersa Thunder. Granted the Bersa will fit my pocket just fine, but it tends to 'roll' around, and make it hard to retrieve in a hurry.

I was thinking of maybe replacing the Ruger with a Kimber Ultra Covert II and using the 5.11 t-shirts with the underarm pockets, and the Robbins 5.11 vest. What do yall think? I have heard people complain of the 5.11 shirts being itchy like the Underarmour is.

Sorry it took so long to sign up and post. It took a while for the confirmation email to come.
Thanks Tom and Tami! Yall put on a real good class. Highly reccomended by me.

Well, Tom sent me the info to get my PIN, and I tried the web tracker just for grins. All it says is, "Packet mailed to applicant." I guess this is because I had initially signed up online. Does the message change when they recieve the completed packet back? It was mailed a week ago. I would think it would have gotten there by now. Now I wish my wife had sent it certified like I had told her to do. :boxing
Oh well, Its still early, and I at least I can carry in my truck. Does anyone know if Taurus is going to have a smaller version of the PT1911? I really want a Kimber Ultra Covert II to replace my Ruger P345 for my carry weapon as I like .45s but the Ruger is a little too big to conceal easily even with its slim profile. That and I have always wanted a 1911. I wish I could afford the Kimber. Time to start saving up while I await my plastic :txflag:

LOL Its not that bad yet, but I imagine around day 60 or so I'll start getting antsy. In the meantime, I have to figure out how Im gonna carry, What kind of concealed clothing to get, etc. You know all about it, Im sure. It could be worse. I could be waiting for a CCL in a state like New York, or worse yet, Washington DC. Thank God I live in Texas! :txflag:

Just checked again and it still says 'Packet Mailed to Applicant'. No response to the email yet. Oh well, back to dreaming about my future Kimber! Saw a really nice one last week with some custom maple grips. It was sweet, and if I had the $$ it would have been mine. :fire

Finally got to talk to someone in Austin. They said it takes 3-4 weeks to get everything into the system and get updated on the website. Its a good I got ahold of them because my wife entered the wron birthday by one day on the online application, and they fixed it over the phone for her so it didnt have to be sent back. Surprisingly nice folks up there judging by the guy I talked to. He said to expect anywhere from 2-3 months to finish the process, so set my expectations to 3 and a half months of waiting in the room with everyone else here :cheers2:

My wife mailed hers in on Feb 5 and it was delivered on Feb 6. As of March 2 it still says "Packet Mailed to Applicant".

OK now, there is no rhyme or reason. I congatulate you on your status update, but I too pre-registered. Mailed my packet 12/28/07 and I'm still waiting on my status to be updated to "Processing Application". Wondering if my license receipt and renewal period will coincide. :confused5

Always look for the silver lining. My birthday was last week. So I guess that means that my plastic will be good for almost 5 years, right?

Back to your question in the original post, I too have been making the rounds looking for gun leather. The biggest selections I found in stock were at Collectors & Top Gun. Did not see anything that I couldn't live without so ordered a custom. I mean what the heck, if we can't carry legally, we can have one being built while we wait???? :waiting:

I have a Bersa Thunder as well and I suggest you check out http://www.ubgholsters.com/index.html. They are quality, handmade leather holsters. A guy named Nate Gable makes them. He started making them for Bersa handguns when he found the quality of holsters for the Bersa and other .380s were not good. Now he mankes holsters for many different types of pistols.

I also suggest you check out http://bersatalk.com/forums/default.aspx to find other suggestions for carrying the Bersa, but they may just direct you to Nate since he started making the holsters specifically for members of that forum.

I live in Houston as well and there is a custom holster maker next to Top Gun. I cannot remember their name but they make plastic as well as leather holsters. They are more expensive than Nate's holsters, though.
