Does your birthday.........

Post by zx9rt1 »

I was wondering if your birthday has any effect on when you recieve your chl? Just kinda of a crazy question I know. How many of you have recieved either a "new" or "renewal" license close to your birthday? Just trying to figure out DPS's method to the madness on renewals.

Michael, that is an interesting question. I think that you might be on to something! You might have uncovered some deep, dark, secret about the application process. My birthday is at the end of April. How did you come up with that?

Got to thinking that since the license expires on your birth date that maybe that is somehow tied to the process. Just trying to figure 'em out. Just a thought.

The only factor your birthday affects is how long the license is good for.

The first license is for 4 years, then until your next birthday. So depending on how you play it you could get close to a 5 year license the first time you apply.
Something similar to driver's license/permits, if any of us remembers.
CHL Class taken: 3/5/08
CHL Packet Sent: 3/24/08
CHL Packet Recieved by DPS: 3/25/08
Check Cleared: 4/1/08
PIN Number Recieved: 4/12/08
CHL Licence Issued/Active: 6/1/08
In the mailbox: 6/5/08
72 days.

1st Renewal
Online app.: 1/3/13
Class: 1/27/13
Mailed: 1/28/13
Paperwork received: 1/31/13

My first license is good for 5 years. I sent in my application a month before my birthday and I guess if they made it out for 4 years and I got it after my birthday then it would have really only be good for 3 years. Mine is good till Feb XX of 2013. So there might be a loop hole to get 5 years. :evil2:

I'm wondering if delays have more to do with where you've lived and the background checks. Doesn't a request have to be sent for a background check in every county you've lived in the last five years?

Whatever the reason, I've never been so anxious in my life. :waiting:

DPS has to do a background check in every county where you have lived and worked. If it's multiple counties, that increases the chance of at least one check being delayed. The FBI also has delays from time to time.

On the birthday thing, several forum members have reported that their first-time CHL was good for a bit longer than five years. IIRC, one was a month longer.
