Post by Dub »

Hey guy's, noob to CHL and the forum. Just got in from shooting range / running errands and decided to post up.

CHL Class-Jan. 19
Paperwork submitted-Feb. 15 (delayed submission due to stitches in finger due to accident which kept me from getting fingerprinted)
Application received by DPS-Feb. 20

Know it will be a long wait so here I sit, and in good company I see.... Did not see a biography thread to officilly announce my presence, so here it is:

Dub Perry

Married
Design computer control systems for petro-chem industry

Active member in Patriot Guard Riders
Corporate Ride Coordinator for Polaris West out in Katy
Will more than likely carry a Government Model 45 (hope so, thats the gun I ordered a IWB for)

So, is it okay to pitch a tent in here while we wait????

Six weeks here as well and no PIN..... Guess I better move the tent to another area of the campground and find out where the public showers are??????? Seriously though, the minute I get the PIN I'll be wasting a lot of bandwitdh checking status..... :thumbs2:

Dub, I think that they update the website once a month. Mine just changed from "packet mailed to applicant" to "processing application" on March 19th. My application was received by DPS on 1/24 and I did the on-line registration. Sometimes I think not having a pin would be a better thing. Hang in there.

So you're going to conceal a gov't model 45? Good for you. I just ordered an IWB holster for my CZ 75b 9mm. Everyone is saying I'm crazy to think I am going to conceal it successfully as It is just about the same size as a browning high power. What factors did you consider in deciding to carry your gov't 45????

Bill,
I think the first and foremost factor is reliability. I've had this sidearm in excess of 20 years and have fired unknown boxes of ammo through it with no FTF's or FTE's which I can now remember. At 6'-2", 230#'s, I almost exclusevly wear loose fitting clothing so printing should not be an issue. The holster I ordered was the Texas Heritage from Tucker which an IDPA shooting friend who is of similar build recommended (i've tried his and thought it was comfortable). I have a few other smaller handguns which would probably do the job, but do not have the confidence in them which I have in that older Colt. Your post did get me to thinking about an alternatice scenario and perhaps i need to start running some brass through through an alternative to build confidence?
I may of course find this is all out the window when push comes to shove and only time will tell, but i have been carrying around the house with a standard OWB paddle and have not had the gun butt punch a hole through the wife's furniture to date.
Which holster did you order for your CZ??????
