Failed Fingerprint

It's six weeks into the process and I got a letter today that my fingerprints weren't good enough. These were inked prints done by Pearland Police at Charles' March class at PSC. So in my case the added note from the officer that said "best quality that could be obtained" wasn't good enough.

I've got an appointment with IBT on Wed for electronic prints (only $10).

I wonder at the concpet that while the Government depends on matching prints on file, they insist on taking them over and over.

I'm sixty years old and have had them taken dozens of times for CHL in FL, NV, SC, and TX, the USMC, and several times for security clearances. You'd think one good set on file with the FBI would be good enough.

Do criminals have to come in every so often to update theirs? :)

That's my whining for today. Fortunately I started this process six months ahead and have until Aug to get it done.

Seems to me that a sharp defense attorney could compile the info on rejected prints/printers to have fingerprint evidence thrown out in some locales...
Seems like no one can take good prints 100% of the time, based on rejection rates.

I'd heard about the failure rate and wanted to avoid it, so I happened to find a place that offered electronic finger print scanning with the CHL class.

We were informed in our CHL class that the FBI considers any print over 2 years old to be outdated and unreliable due to changes in fingerprint (injury, chemical, wear, age, etc)

Do they purge their database of criminal fingerprints after two years? That would show what they really think.

I'm sorry and surprised to hear that also. This is the first prints that have been done by Mike in my classes that have been rejected. When I first saw him use one of the "best prints available" letters I asked him if those letter helped. I think he said he'd never had one rejected, as it served as proof that it wasn't going to get any better. This is another example why I don't roll the prints myself, even though DPS as accepted my "certification" letter.

I know Alice Tripp has had one report of a digital print being rejected by the FBI.

Its almost like they have to meet a quota on rejections. I know, get out the tinfoil hat

They sent back a paper to my wife that they said wasnt filled out completely. It also needed a Notary stamp. The thing is, the paper wasnt filled out at all. We both filled out our paperwork together and double checked each others packet as well as showing the instructor what we were going to mail. I think they lost her paper and sent it back saying it wasnt complete. Also, they said her picture was too big. I know she has a big head, but what gives??

She sent back the corrections Friday, so her wait starts again......

Clock is ticking again. It took less than 10 min to get the digital prints done and less than $ 11. If you live close to one of these places, I highly recommend it.

As to the Wally Walk, I've had a CHL since 1988 (FL) so my walk was 20 years ago :) This CHL application was first renewal for TX.

Mrs. Oldgringo has submitted THREE (3) sets of fingerprints since her initial application was mailed in on 12/17/07. This last (4th) set was taken by a FAST agent and we're told (via DPS e-mail) that it has been sent to the FBI and once FBI approval is received, a license will be issued? We wonder why the first three sets of fingerprints were rejected in Austin and by whom? It's been some 137 calendar day since her initial application. Maybe this last set of prints will be accepted and her CHL will be issued...someday.

Incidentally, the Oldgingo attended the same class as Mrs. Oldgringo in December of '07, took the same photos, had the same first set of fingerprints taken by the same guy using the same inkpad, etc., etc. and received his CHL in mid-February some 60 days after 12/17/07 initial application.

Patience y'all, the good folk in Austin are doing their best given the overwhelming number of applicants.
