Brady VS NRA

Post by Liberty »

I thought this was interesting, but not quite sure of what o make of it all.
Some Brady PAC Figures
Contributions to this PAC from individual donors of $200 or more: $0.00
The NRA figures
Contributions to this PAC from individual donors of $200 or more: $261,018

I always though thought that the Bradys wasn't a real organization. while they might get contributions from Sorriful Soros once in a while. Do they actually have real live members? How there really more than a dozen members? Kinda funny how a tiny organization with no money and no members carries so much political clout.

I think I'm begining to understand why the some of the Democrats are so afraid to really admit how they really feel about guns.

Look at the 2004 figures for the Brady PAC. They spent quite a bit more money then.

I think their real strength is P.R. It seems every time the RKBA comes up in the news, they get to promote their point of view at no cost.

The entire Brady Campaign has annual revenue less than $5 million, far less than the entire NRA: http://www.bradycampaign.org/xshare/pdf ... s/2006.pdf (last page)

I had not realized they were so small in that respect.

What I find even more interesting than the even the total amount of bucks is the number of donors.
In 2004 The Brady bunch PAC got 124 donors, while the NRA PAC got 1105 donors of over $200.oo

The P.R they get isn't really deserved. The MSM goes looking for them and presents them as though they are the equivalent opposition of the NRA. I would bet that most of us have never even met a real card carrying Brady Bunch Member.

This problem of false balance is widespread in the media. You can see it with the influence of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the Humane Society of the United States, and the Center for Science in the Public Interest. These groups get far more attention than their expertise, membership numbers, or budgets deserve.

Jim, that's just a tiny bit misleading. The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence and the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, combined, stated about $8.8 million in total revenue for 2006, the last year for which they've released an annual report. And these don't include their PAC, a separate entity, the National Handgun Control Voter Education Fund.

Not that I don't agree with you that the NRA is larger...and hopefully will stay that way. :patriot:

I think this has been posted not too long ago, but in the spirit of "know your enemy":

PAC: National Handgun Control Voter Education Fund
Membership: 250,000 dues-paying members. HCI claims 1,000,000+ members, but this includes contacts by interested parties by any means.

In 2001, Handgun Control, Inc. changed its name to Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The organization originated (1974) as the National Council to Control Handguns (NCCH), a group which lobbied for government restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms through support for restrictions on the manufacture, importation, sale, transfer, and civilian possession of handguns. The organization voiced a desire for an eventual handgun ban through gradual steps, but changed its name and espoused goals due to results of a survey. In 1991, then HCI amended its Articles of Incorporation to reflect its support of restrictions on rifles and shotguns as well.

In 2001, BCPGV absorbed the financially strapped "Million Mom March" (MMM) organization. MMM is a chapter-based organization formed in 1999 as a reaction to the shooting at the Jewish Community Center in suburban Los Angeles. Their stated goal is to win passage of "gun laws, including: (1) licensing of handgun owners, (2) registration of handguns, (3) creating consumer product safety standards for guns, (4) closing the "gun show loophole," and (5) limiting gun purchases to no more than one a month." They staged a march in Washington, D.C. On Mothers Day 2000 and have continued to build a national organization. The founder, Donna Dees-Thomases is a close friend of Bill and Hillary Clinton.

Don't forget the American Hunters and Shooters Association. I've never been able to keep up with these interlinked organizations and their name changes.
