Hi, y'all
I've been lurking here a while. This is a great board, well moderated and the folks here seem to be a great bunch. BTW, I am also a member at The High Road, but I don't get to post much- pretty busy. Probably will be the same way here but when I do I hope it will add something real.
Well, here's my story about my CHL renewal turnaround (sorry about not being more precise regarding some of the dates). Shortly after the beginning of the year I received a notification from DPS that my license would expire this year- my birthday is July 11. Early February I did all the stuff online I could and I think I had my packet in less than 2 weeks.
I took the renewal class on Saturday 4/12 and mailed my packet in on Monday 4/14. Today is May 31; my wife and I got home from a barbecue about 11:00 PM; she started going through mail and there was my plastic! 47 calendar days total.
I don't know why my renewal got through so fast. Here's some speculation:
1) I've lived at the same address for 10 years
2) This is my second renewal
3) I've only had but 1 traffic ticket in the last 20 years
4) I'm pretty old (59 in July) (but that isn't that old, right?)
5) Where I took the class they had an ex-LEO and a notary who went over the paperwork with a microscope
6) My credit score is super (thanks to my wife) but does that matter?
7) I'm a veteran (but didn't claim the price discount); again does this matter?
8) I'm like the Clint Eastwood character "Will Munney" in "The Unforgiven" in that "I've always been lucky in the order..."
9) Folks like Charles, a bunch of y'all, and the crew at Texas State Rifle Association have been so noisy that DPS felt impelled to kind of get on the stick
Personally, I think #8 and #9 were the big reasons....how bout y'all?

Welcome abaoard & glad your renewal went fast. The way things are going slow, if folks dont start on day one of eligibility they can be w/o.
All it takes is one bad fingeprint card or foget to sign something.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

Re: New Member with a Quick Renewal
So I guess the real question is, since this is my 2nd renewal, and I've never done the Wally Walk thing since I didn't know about it until I started coming here, do I have to do that now?
Could I just substitute by wearing my 5" bbl Model 29 IWB while cutting the lawn today? (my normal carry is a Keltec P3AT back pocket holster or a Taurus 85 UL front pocket holster)

If you're on your second renewal, I'd say you already satisfied any Wally Walk requirements.
Welcome, Kurt. And no, 59 isn't old. "Old" is always 20 years older than you are right now...although that might have to compress to 10 years once you hit 90.
