Email from DPS

Post by Rough_Ashlar »

Last week after about 90 days I decided it was time to get whatever information I could from DPS other than that infernal "processing application" line on the website

I did get a response from Simone and here is a copy

I realize with the surge of applications you have received puts your department in the position of being up to your neck in alligators while trying to drain the swamp, but at the same time My application is nearing the 90 day point so I am concerned as to the status of my license.

Any information you could provide would be very helpful

I was going to write the Lt Gov and a state senator that I've talked to on several occasions, but now , I'm thinking that this is a situation where not much can be done, since they are waiting on an outside agency :totap:

I think you have nailed the issue on the head. My theory is due to the increased number of applicants they have, it now takes them longer to get started on the application in general. Once they do get the app started, they still have to send out to the feds, the county or counties you have resided in, previous states you have resided in, check for delinquent child support or back taxes and check state criminal records (assuming they can do that themselves.) If the agencies that normally do these external checks have to process more apps, then they too will be backed up from the additional requests (depending on where you live and the number of requests pending) adding additional delays to the normal turn-around times. All in all the increased load in applicants snowballs and requires many others, not just the DPS to handle more apps. This is probably more apparent in areas where there are a larger number of applicants (i.e Hunt, Travis , Bexar and the DFW area counties.)

That's my theory anyway. YMMV
