I hold a Colorado CHL and will be in the Metroplex next week. Please help me with the basics of carrying in your state.
After reading about the 30.06 signage on the site I have become more confused. I.e. what’s a legal sign or not.
I will be visiting in the Plano, Flower Mound and Lewisville area hitting the malls, restaurants and general driving.
I don’t want to screw things up.
Thanks,
FireMedicRogers

The basics are that you cannot carry in school buildings or courtrooms, or at professional or school sporting events. You cannot carry if they serve alcohol and are marked with a sign with a red 51 (the actual law is if they make over 50% of their income from alcohol sales for on premise consumption but for a visitor just look for this sign), or if they properly post against carrying.
The real trick is if they properly post, but what I would recommend for a visitor is look for signs with wording similar to what is required and not to worry about the fine technicalities. Don't worry about generic no guns signs, or the pistol in the circle with the red slash.
While we constantly debate the fine points of the law, I think you will find that most Texas police will be more lenient with the out of state visitor. As long as you are close to compliance, and err on the side of caution with the close calls, you should be fine. Just be prepared to apologize and leave imediately if someone does say something to you. The verbal notice rules are pretty strict.
If you know anyplace in specific you will be headed, you might check out the www.texas3006.com web site. It is not 100% complete with everyplace that bans, but a pretty good start on it.

In that area (Plano, Lewisville/FloMo), you should be good to go as long as you avoid Taco Cabana.
though, you did say you were going to restaurants, not a dysentery distributor.
Avoid Denton Regional Med Ctr, as it is posted with a 30.06 sign, but Lewisville Med is okay. (from my own observations.)

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
