How to relocate from one state to another with your guns

This question is obviously not for me, as I have no plans to ever leave Texas.

Is there an issue with moving from a state like Tennessee to Ohio? Do you just pack your firearms in boxes and away you go?

Basically, yes. The one stipulation is you must follow the laws of the state you move to. For example, you cannot take high-capacity magazines (>10 rounds) into California. There are other states that have some requirements for ownership cards, etc. Here is a good reference form the NRA http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/Federal/Read.aspx?id=59

EDITED TO ADD: http://www.atf.treas.gov/firearms/faq/faq2.htm#b10 this is also helpful.

They are yours so you can take them -- Federal law says you can tranport them (at worst, unloaded and locked up) through any state where you can legally own them to any state where you can legally own them.

A few states or localities require registration of some or all firearms. A few localities ban them. Maybe (some of) that will change tomorrow morning when the DC v. Heller Supreme Court ruling affirms that the DC Gun ban is unconstitutional.

It isn't likley to immediately affect Chicago etc, but it might.

Tennessee and Ohio (IIRC) are reasonably gun friendly -- although Ohio has been playing catch up until recently.

The OpenCarry.org site will get you are lot of people from either state who are interested in both open and concealed carry.
