Got Utah Plastic Today

Post by Iggy Pop »

Utah plastic showed up today. It took 60 days, according to them. They start the clock the day the open the mail and process the credit card, which can be weeks from when they actually receive the application. Still a LOT faster than Texas. Now, I really don't give a darn when Texas plastic shows up.

Congrats. I'm very pleased to have my Utah permit as well, and I appreciate the fact that they were willing to make them available for non-residents. But, as discussed elsewhere on the forum, it looks like the governor is determined to either do away with or radically change their non-resident program. His compromise idea is to require out-of-state applicants to come to Utah for classes, and thus benefit their tourism industry. They're talking about de-certifying all out-of-state instructors. It should be noted that there are strong supporters of the current program both in state government and among the public. But those in opposition are determined, with both the governor and the department of public safety supporting the change.

A couple of recent stories on the subject can be found at the URLs below.

Congratulations! That's great news, Iggy Pop, it sure did take the sting out of having to wait for Texas, huh? :thumbs2:

Thanks everyone.

The letter that came with the permit states "You have been issued a concealed firearm permit by the Utah Department of Public Safety, this permit is valid contingent on a satisfactory criminal history report being received by the FBI. You will be notified if the fingerprints are rejected or of a revocation in the FBI criminal history report contains information of a disqualifying nature.

Any guesses about this? I wonder if they're sending out permits, to stay within the 60 day window, even though the FBI is moving too slow.

I had my Utah plastic for more than 2 months before their BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) sent a packet with two blank fingerprint cards and a letter saying that the FBI had rejected the first one. Surprisingly, they said the license would remain valid unless I failed to send an acceptable set of prints (no time limit was given however). I got two new sets done (just in case) at the local PD and sent them the next week. No word since then.

The family member with whom I took the course had to re-do his too, which made me wonder how many others in the group had the same experience.

Utah has a time limit to issue their permit in, just like Texas. I bet you are getting the letter because they couldn't finish your application in their time limit, so they went ahead and issued your permit on good faith so that they can meet their deadline set by law.

I hope they don't talk to my first grade teacher. She might tell them about me pulling off the wings of flies and turning them into "walks."
