Galveston County robbery spree

Post by seamusTX »

A 43-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man staged a serious of robberies in Galveston County Sunday night and early Monday morning (August 10 & 11) with the goal of getting bail money for her jailed relative.

Their carefully planned M.O. was for her to wear a hockey mask and a blue jumpsuit and threaten to kill her accomplice if the victims did not give them money.

They hit a series of convenience stores, a Walgreen's, and a Denny's. In one case, a store clerk drove them away with a baseball bat.

The police tracked them and laid down a spike strip at 46th and Broadway in the city of Galveston. The crooks' vehicle hit the spike strip and had its tires flattened, but continued west on Broadway and I-45 until they were arrested in La Marque, about 10 miles away.

One police car was wrecked in the chase, and two cars had their tires flattened by the spike strip.

What a plan! Well, at least all three are now off the streets.

When I read this story in the paper this morning, my only thought was how easy it would have been to be in one of those stores when this was going on. I read a lot of "what if" posts on this forum and this story points up how easy it would be to find myself in one of those senerio's.

It is something to think about.

I always try to figure out where the rear exit is. If you see someone coming with a hockey mask, you know it's a robbery and it's time to beat feet. Opening the rear door often sets off an alarm, which might abort the robbery.

acording to the story I read this afternoon, one of the BG's was useing the other BG as a "victom". If you walked in and didn't know what was going on, you might conclude a BG was actully a good guy. The fact is, you can never tell exactly what you are deeling with. Even if you were in the store at the time and saw what was going on, you might be tempted to get involved to "save" a poor guy who was being held at gunpoint. This story shows us that "what we see" might be lieing to us.

Jim, the back door option sounds like a good one except some of the doors will set off a alarm but the newer ones will not open for 15 seconds. This was put into place to keep people from running out those doors with merchendise. I would hate to be standing in front of a alarming door for 15 seconds with a gun toteing nut roaming the store. Some of the doors have signs telling you there is a delay before it opens, some don't and some will set off the alarm and you can exit right away. I don't know (if there is no sign psoted) which door has the delay and which door don't. I don't carry a cell phone (the last guy in the world without one) but I would try calling 911 before I would take a chance on a exit door.

I did not know about the delay. I'm going to have to research this issue.

I know Wal-Mart has the delay on there "fire" doors post remodel. A lot of BG's were coming in there at night and running thru the fire doors with a TV or other high dollar item and had a buddy waiting on the other side with a car.

You should have heard the discription of the BG's face when this was atempted with a flat screen TV after the remodel and the delay was in place--LOL. The guy was like a cornered rat. I will tell you the story the way it was told to me sometime when I see you.
