Re: Happy New Year!!
May you all have a happy and prosperous new year.
For those who were not aware, Rosh Hashanah started today (Sep. 29) at sundown. This is the start of the new year on teh Jewish calendar.

Re: Happy New Year!!
Thanks Steve.
For those who may be curious, this is simply more than a calendar milestone. Here's a brief tutorial:
Rosh Hashanah is commonly known as the Jewish New Year. This name is somewhat deceptive, because there is little similarity between Rosh Hashanah, one of the holiest days of the year, and the standard Dec31 midnight drinking bash.
There is, however, one important similarity between the Jewish New Year and the standard one: Many use the Jan01 New Year as a time to plan a better life, making "resolutions." Likewise, the Jewish New Year is a time to begin introspection, looking back at the mistakes of the past year and planning the changes to make in the new year.
Rosh Hashanah, is the anniversary of Creation and is the beginning of the the ten days of atonement. (5769 years since Creation if you're a strict Fundamentalist).
On Rosh Hashanah, all mankind is judged. G-d writes the judgment for each of us in the Book of Life. This judgment is based on our lives of the year before, and is the decision of what will happen to us in the coming year.
But the judgment is not final. The days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur give us a time to change the judgment for good. We are given the chance to improve our coming year through asking forgiveness, prayer, and (charity).
On Rosh Hashanah we wish each other "may you be written in for a good year".

so, uh, did you buy a gun to celebrate the new year, or......
FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
Re: Happy New Year!! (now with synopsis)
Ummm, it's not quite that kind of holiday. Also, I don't exactly have much discretionary income and won't burden my credit cards. Besides, in August I came home from Camp Perry with two rifles so I need to let SWMBO cool down a bit from that extravaganza. Last, SWMBO doesn't know yet that I plan on buying my son a handgun for his birthday next month, she won't be thrilled.DoubleJ wrote:so, uh, did you buy a gun to celebrate the new year, or......

About two nanoseconds after I posted it I realized that I put it in the wrong section, but I don't have the ability to move it.DoubleJ wrote:so, uh, how's this thread still in GENERAL and not OFF TOPIC?
