Lufkin pizza delivery man stops robbers
On Tuesday, a pizza delivery man in Lufkin tried to deliver a pizza to a house that turned out to be vacant. Two armed men approached him, and he fired two shots from a .22 caliber Derringer, hitting one robber.
The delivery man had a CHL and was not arrested.
He worked for Papa John's. No word yet on whether he was or will be fired.
The wounded robber was hospitalized and placed under arrest. The other "suspect" fled and was not apprehended.

Makes me smile, and makes me proud to be a Texan....hopefully these dimwitted would-be robbers will get the message that more and more people are arming themselves, and it's not the walk-in-the-park that they were hoping for. Good job buddy!!!!

Why should Lufkin be different from everywhere else? It's a big enough town to have an underclass.

Re: Lufkin pizza delivery man stops robbers
well I'm from lufkin lol, i've never really noticed any big crime.
I know everyplace has crime, I'm just shocked that lufkin's not the golden city I remember it to be.
Basically I used to feel no problem leaving my 2300$ laptop in my truck (doors locked) at the mall. but now I do lol.

Armed robbery of a pizza driver isn't "big time crime." It happens every day.
Lufkin is a little worse than the state average.

I did not realize this type of crime happened on a regular basis. I don't believe I want to deliver pizzas.

To understand why, look at it from the BG's perspective:03Lightningrocks wrote:seamusTX wrote:Armed robbery of a pizza driver isn't "big time crime." It happens every day.

Pizza deliverymen exchange merchandise for money, which they carry with them as they run their routes.
They operate alone and away from their store.
They'll go almost anywhere on a mere phone request.
It takes virtually no effort to set up a robbery at a vacant property that has no attachment to the BG.
Most pizza delivery chains forbid their workers to carry weapons.
Can you spell "Dial an ideal victim and have him come to you?"
Bad guys go for the easy hit. If you're a BG, it doesn't get much better than this.

Really no down side to it (assuming the victim doesn't fight back).

Re: Lufkin pizza delivery man stops robbers
Yes for a mid size town in East Texas, Lufkin is a rough place. I fully expect it to get even worse. I am not surprised the rates here are above the state average but did not know it.
This one & the Catfish King shooting are getting to be the order of the day instead of the occasional violent crime in an otherwise good little town.

Carry 24-7 or guess right.

There are at least 10 a day in the U.S., and they happen in other English-speaking countries.

I never gave it much thought before, but it all makes sense. These poor guys are risking their lives to deliver pizza! The world is one seriously screwed up place sometimes.

Re: Lufkin pizza delivery man stops robbers
I have a friend who owns a Domino's franchise. He says it is not unusual for one run to a large college party to collect $600-$700 bucks. They will usually try to put two delivery folks in the car on those, but sometimes it isn't feasible. Plus, most delivery vehicles have a big sign on their car that might as well say 'Rob Me'.Excaliber wrote:To understand why, look at it from the BG's perspective:03Lightningrocks wrote:seamusTX wrote:Armed robbery of a pizza driver isn't "big time crime."
