Sophomore in high school, walking down the corridor, the school office manager came on the PA system with tears in his voice. I skipped out of school for the rest of the day and walked home using the route that I hunted on regularly. I grabbed my .22 and went squirrel hunting until sundown.

When I arrived home the major part of the uproar had died down to a major extent and what was being said on the TV and radio, which my parents were listening to both of, was more coherent than what was going on a couple of hours before.

That weekend I joined a couple of other shooters at Watervliet Fish and Game club in trying to duplicate the shooter's feat, we didn't succeed.

I read that as "they", the communists. JFK was quite a friend to black Americans, so it wouldn't make sense to blame them, even in '63. And when you add in "it appears we've elected one of 'them' to the same Oval Office", it becomes clear he wasn't speaking of race.

I was six months old and in my playpen, so I certainly don't recall the event. It was a major part of my growing-up years, though.

I read it very different, if he was referring to a communist than I am sorry for the mistake.

ETA: Unfortunatly when someone refers to anyone as "them" or "they" or"those people" It is generally a raciest remark. Again forgive the misunderstanding if there is one.

"They", it's interesting who 'they" were and who "they" are today.

Does anyone here remember the air raid drills of getting under your school desk or in the doorway with your head down and your hands on the back of your neck? In those days, "they" were the commies of Russia and the 'yellow hordes' of China. For that matter, who knows what an "Iron Lung" was and why it existed?

Ah, yes. "Duck and cover" would protect us from those nasty old H-bombs!!

I was 11 in '62 and remember that this area would clearly have been targeted.

And as a survivor of polio, I know what the iron lung was for.

Ninth grade in the library when the principal came over the intercom announcing the assasination. Mother was at work at Vought Aeronotics waiting to see the president arrive for a photo opp and a tour of the Naval Defense Plant. On the following Saturday, I had just returned from the roller rink (yea, I know, but it was a crush on a girl thing) to see the shooting of Lee Harvey Oswald on television. I will ever remember those times.

I was in Industrial Arts class in Junior High. When the principal announced over the intercom that president Kennedy had been shot, one of the boys in class blurted out, "Good!" The teacher, Mr. Santucci, walked over to him, rapped him on the back of his head with his knuckles and told him to "shut up." Later, when it was announced that the president had died, they closed school and sent us home.

I was at recess after lunch. Several teachers cam out to get everyone in & the announcement was mad.

I do remember the air raid drills & getting under the desk.

I read the "They" as the commies too. Dont know about a commie in the WH but it does seem that as much as he & his appointees use the word "rule" since election that we may have our first King since the Revolution.

LOL. Back in the day, "they" were, of course, the communists/socialist/Marxists that kept us all petrified we were gonna get vaporized at any moment.

My, but how things do indeed change.

Won't be long now, Obama will be banging his shoe on the podium and yelling, "We will bury all you country bumpkins clinging to your guns and your religion and your antipathies."

I was only 3 at the time and have no memories of this event. We were living at West Point and my father was on active duty as an aircraft mechanic. He later did several tours in Vietnam (65-66/67-68/70-71), so we moved around a lot.
