MTAC multi gun holster review..
MTAC multi gun holster review..
I just ordered the MTAC for my 1911 and a spare body for my G30. Since there is already a review on the MTAC I wanted to provide some feedback on swapping bodies to use the same holster with different guns. I'm tired of having several holsters so now I will only have to buy one more body to carry any of my handguns in the MTAC frame. I would imagine that in 10 days or so I will be able to add an update and let you know how it went.

I am the one who wrote the original review. If you want to send me your write up I can add it to the review that I did. That way people wont have to read more than one post. If you want to do your own I'll be sure the place the link in mine.

Sounds good, I guess I can just reply to your post.
Re: MTAC multi gun holster review..
I decided to keep my review separate due to some problems. First off, I ordered the holster on a Saturday and received it Thursday, you cannot be that turnaround. The holster came with the 1911 body on it. Everything looked nice and it fit well. Before I even wore it I decided to swap bodies and install the G30 body, this is where the problem started. From what I can tell, the G30 body was made wrong and would not fit onto the holster. I e-mailed Comp-Tac Friday and asked about it just in case I was doing something wrong. I also e-mailed on of their employees via Glocktalk. The weekend passed and I had not heard anything yet about my e-mails. I decided to call first thing Monday morning and told them my issue. They were going to speak with the production manager and then call me back. 7 hours later no call so I called back. I'm a little irritated by now due to a lack of customer service for a $38 piece of Kydex that I cannot use. They said that sometimes the holster needs to be moved a bit when attaching different bodies, the holster shape can change with use. Since I had not worn it yetm that was not the case for me. I told them that there is no way that the G30 body was made properly, the holes where it attaches are spaced wrong, they appear to be about 1/4 inch off from where they need to be and there is no way to attach it without distorting the holster. When I lay both bodies on top of each other the holes are way off and do not appear to be in the proper space on the G30 body. I got an RMA and will send the G30 body back and see what they say. I will take pictures next week to show the problem (I do not have my camera available right now).
I'm a little disappointed at their customer service and quality control, but I'm still giving them the benefit of the doubt and I will see what they will do.

Sometime just for grins I email(inquire about something) the customer service department BEFORE I do business with that particular vendor/merchant just to see what kind of "service" I get. If I'm not satisfied, I go elsewhere.

Here is the G30 body, you can see that the holes are in the wrong spot when compared to the 1911 body that fits.

Re: MTAC multi gun holster review..
Alright, it looks like I was wrong all along. It had to talk with a few different people before I got the lowdown, but the holster was made right and I was wrong. Comp Tac will be updating their website with installation instructions in the next couple of months since it appears that more people than just me make this mistake. They must get a lot of calls about this. Gordon from Comp Tac was real helpful and explained that the holes are drilled only after installing on the leather holster so they cannot be drilled wrong.
Although they should add some assembly instructions (I think they are planning on doing this in the future), overall I am pleased with the holster quality, and the help I received from Gordon at Comp Tac. So far this is the best holster that I have owned (out of Hoffner's holsters, Cross Breed, Fobus, and several other kydex manufacturers). The build looks like it will hold up for longer than I will own my gun.

Re: MTAC multi gun holster review..
Alright, I got the G30 body back and I have worn the holster with my 1911 and with my G30. I have a Para 14-45 so it ends up being pretty heavy with 15 rounds of 45 plus the gun weight. The MTAC makes it comfortable to wear, but with the weight and size of the gun I do not forget it is there. The G30 is a whole other story, this holster fits well and I forget I'm even wearing the gun, I have actually reached back to make sure the gun didn't fall out. This is the best holster I have owned thus far. Someday when my funds are a little better I will try an all leather holster (like the VM2) and compare, but for now I give Comp-Tac and the MTAC holster a thumbs-up for quality, fit, customer service and value.
Re: MTAC multi gun holster review..
I'm completely happy with the MTAC Minotaur after about a month of carrying a full size XD 40. I took a couple of days to figure out how I wanted the cant and ride height, and it settled into about 3:30-4:00 on the belt and hasn't moved. Have a I said I'm completely happy?
Cheers
