sexaully assualted friend: UPDATE

Post by gigag04 »

A while ago I posted about a friend of mine in DFW that was sexually assualted at a gas station at 10 pm on a friday or something like that.

I got a quick msg from her tonight that she has passed her CHL class and has a revolver, and is waiting on her license.

Her dad got her the revolver (she couldn't tell me which kind) but I was happy she is armed. Just wish she could carry it NOW...however she is waiting to get licensed to exercise a right...

She can keep it in the car until the license arrives, unless she spends time in Houston or another area with an idiot DA. And encourage her to practice, find a range she likes and see about chipping in with some mutual friends/her parents to get her a membership if possible.

Also find her some GOOD mace to keep for times when the iron isn't available/inappropriate.

The only stuff I've messed with was "Disabler 10-13" 10%OC I got a drop blown back in my face and had both eyes swollen shut.

Can you legally use your weapon for self-defense outside your home without a CHL? Like if someone attacks you in a Walmart parking lot and for some reason you had enough time to get your weapon from the trunk of your car.

Yes. The requirements for using deadly force are the same regardless of your location, with the exception of the retreat requirement outside your home. Whether she would be charged with UCW is another issue, but I don't see someone making the conscious decision to sacrifice their life because they might or might not face a UCW charge.

Prior to the passage of the CHL statute in 1995, it was almost unheard of for UCW charges to be filed against a non-felon involved in a rightous self-defense shooting. I haven't seen a significant change in that attitude in my area of Texas, but I suspect it has in some more liberal parts of Texas (like Ronnie Earle country :mad5). How about it hmb - what are your thoughts?

Regards,
Chas.

A couple things:

First of all, we have to be thankful that she is a survivor in a situation like this. Its still horrible, but, she is alive

Second...I hate that it takes something like this to make someone decide to arm up. We have all been in a situation where if we would have had better planning, things would have gone the right way. Its life, and its called learning.

Glad to hear she is ok and getting armed up. Better late than never in this case. Make sure she gets lots of range time.

Did she pass the class with the revovler? In TX if u use a revolver for the class you can only use revovlers for carry.

Nick,

If your friend needs additional instruction in basic gun handlling, my wife teaches the NRA introductory pistol course more or less monthly.

She can PM me if she thinks the course would be of hlep.

Yeah, what a assanine rule.
Personally, in all reality, I'd much rather have a 6-shot S&W 4" model 66 .357 with JHP than my 9mm, but they are so much more bulky than my Springfield XD-9. Not that I don't like my XD, I love it, I just think the .357 has a much better 'punch'.
