I was doing a little surfing and decided to check out the some netbooks.
Dang, they're right up there with full size laptops now.
The Asus Eee 904HA has 1gb of memory, 160gb HD, a 95% size keyboard, 8.9" screen, up to 7.5 hours of battery life , for the low, low price of 349 bux shipped from NewEgg. A 2gb stick of memory is only 25 bux, so I would upgrade that immediately.
Any reason why this would not be a good deal?

It's the
of the future, man.
Only reason to potentially not get one: that money could be used to by a new gun
Tough call.

plus, as soon as I buy it, it'll be outdated by something twice as fast, half the weight and half the price within a week!!!atxgun wrote:It's theof the future, man.

Re: Netbooks, who's got 1?
I have one in fact I'm using it now. Mine is the Acer Aspire One. I've had it for about a month. I really like it. This one has 120 Gig Harddrive and XP pro. I just got back from Biloxi and its nice bringing a laptop in a little 2 pound package. Those who cart a real laptop to a hotel room or on a plane soon understand just how unportable a laptop really is. I use mine for surfing the net, checking email, creating OOo Docs, and downloading music. It is very capable for its assigned tasks. Most folks probably don't need or benefit from a more powerful machine. The bigest negative is that it is really a half screen, so one ends up scrolling a lot on web sites such as this one therefore it is a little bit slower navigating it.
So far the only only accessories I've bought for this is Headset, 8 Gig SD card. Ethernet cable for the one hotel that didn't have wireless.
Edit to corect specs: 12/29

I wonder how long that laptop would run if it didn't have a power hungry harddrive in it, if it had a largish RAMDRIVE like a USB pendrive with a USB bootable OS like a linuxlive cd would it be able to run longer?

Prices are too high to replace my old laptop but they're coming down.

The demand for high speed processing and memory access along with lighting up the monitor make the biggest demands on power. However shutting off the wireless can make a significant difference.WarHawk-AVG wrote:I wonder how long that laptop would run if it didn't have a power hungry harddrive in it, if it had a largish RAMDRIVE like a USB pendrive with a USB bootable OS like a linuxlive cd would it be able to run longer?

OK, I'll admit that I was an early adopter and bought the Asus eeePC 701 when it came out. I still have it and it does what I want it to do. I did not buy it as a replacement for a desktop computer.
I also bought an Acer Aspire for my daughter for Christmas. She absolutely loves it.
The netbook has its place.
