Red Dawn is one of my all time favorites.
If we had an invasion like that in TX I can only imagine that the outcome would be very negative for the commies! :)

A wonderful movie. I always enjoyed the idea of taking them on on home ground. Guess with age now I'd be more concerned about protecting mine than assaulting and attacking.........I can't see me doing a foxhole...or living in the hills..too old and fat....would take days to get a foxhole dug big enough to furnish myself cover. It would be up to you young ones. I'll keep a few spare rounds in the draw for though.

Reality Check!

If y'all want to see a real movie, rent "Enemy at the Gates". It is a true story about real life and real people during the siege of Stalingrad in early WWII.

LoL. No he's back in Washington D.C., but that's only for one day :) He was on holiday for a few years and traveled the world. I am sure he's going to move back to LA once he's done with the current crisis.

I've watched Red Dawn several times and owned a dvd until someone borrowed it and never returned it.
I can't remember the sequence of events but wasn't it described that they (Cuban/Russian commies) nuked part of the US, dividing it, smuggled soldiers across the Mexico/Texas border and brought in more troops on planes disguised as commercial airliners and went conventional from there...?

Early on, when the boys were escaping the town in the truck, there were a few US helicopters trying to defend the attack. Not sure what happened to them but I'd guess they got driven back since the town was taken over.

Also interesting was the part where the Cuban commander instructed his men to go to the sporting goods shops and get the ATF form 4473 so they could seek out the gun owners and confiscate their weapons.

Exactly! That's one of the scariest parts of the movie!

And then later in the movie you hear that Roberts father was killed becasue he could not account for the guns that he let the kids take when they were getting out of town.

I loved that movie as well. Will never forget the scene where the radiator needed water and they all had to "fill" it up. LOL It just made me think of something though. Didn't the Japanese commander at one point, interviewed years later after WWII, say that the reason he didn't invade/attack the continental US was because too many citizens had guns?

So I "rented" Red Dawn today from "the Internet" and I must say, I liked it. Kinda a depressing ending, but expected. Just as I was starting to think that someone in the group should have been shot already they started dropping like flies.

A friend of mine mentioned a scenario a while back where he wondered what would happen if the Chinese dropped in with 4-wheelers and ammo drops to wreck shop on the US. I'm assuming he'd seen this movie and upped the scale.

In one of the many histories of the cold war that I've read, a few of them stated that the large amount of arms owned privately was one (of the many) reasons the Soviets never even seriously considered an invasion.

The Japanese also took this into consideration when deciding whether or not to launch an invasion of the mainland U.S. in WWII, and it was a large reason that idea was rejected by them.

A few years of Obama, though, and I'm afraid our enemies will no longer have that as a deterrent.
