1793 - King Louis XVI of France was beheaded, thus ending tyranny forever.

1924 - Vladimir Lenin died at the age of 53, after an assassination attempt and a series of strokes.

While few tears are shed for Comrade Lenin today, had he lived, he might have succeeded in removing Stalin from power. Following Lenin's death, the psychopathic Stalin took over the USSR and caused countless millions of deaths and destroyed lives.

1950 - Alger Hiss was convicted of lying to a grand jury. The underlying crime was espionage; but, as Richard Nixon pointed out, it's not the crime that gets you, it's the cover-up.

1954 - The first nuclear-powered submarine, the USS Nautilus, was launched.

1958 - Charles Starkweather, the 19-year-old boyfriend of a 14-year-old girl, killed three members of her family in Lincoln, Nebraska. The two lovebirds then went on a road trip killing spree that resulted in seven more deaths.

Starkwealther was executed for murder. The girl was found guilty and imprisoned until 1976, and then vanished into history.

1968 - The Battle of Khe Sahn began during the Vietnam war.

1968 - A B-52 bomber carrying hydrogen bombs crashed in Greenland. Some components of the bombs were not recovered.

It was a big deal at the time, but another bit of nearly forgotten history now.
