end of Jan check-up: losing weight as planned?
I'm down 13 lb so far this month (!).
Still about 15-20 lb from my goal. At this rate I'll be there in 6 weeks.

haven't been able to weigh this week, but last week I was at 223 on Monday, 219 by friday. some of that, I'm sure was water weight due to the sodium rich diet of the weekend.
still much better than the 250 of a few years ago....

FWIW, IIRC, AFAIK, FTMP, IANAL. YMMV.
Re: end of Jan check-up: losing weight as planned?
Mathematically, it almost has to be at least partly water weight. Of course, I did lose 4 lb of legitimate non-water weight in one week this month, but that is extremely unlikely to happen. To lose 4 lb in one week, you have to burn 14,000 more calories than you consume. That's an average of 2,000 calories per day of deficit. Most people will not do this even if they do not eat at all for that week.DoubleJ wrote:haven't been able to weigh this week, but last week I was at 223 on Monday, 219 by friday. some of that, I'm sure was water weight due to the sodium rich diet of the weekend.

its going very well thanks for asking.
down from a high of 168lbs to 158lbs.
of course I started in december, I only like to lose 4-5lb a month.
should be back in race shape in less than 2 months easily.
time to get back in my 30"s

I've lost 15lbs in January with diet and exercise.

I am about the same as when the year started. No more no less. Too much but don't have any plans to do much about it either.

Broke even, but that means I maintained the 52 I lost last year. Would still like to lose another 10-15. 6'2" 220lbs

If you maintained the 52 you lost last year, you are doing great!
Re: end of Jan check-up: losing weight as planned?
When I lost 88 lb in 2002, I gained back about 8 lb right off the bat once I started eating quasi normal again and stayed within 10 lb of that final weight of 185lb for the past 7 years, with occasional runs up a touch over 200 during the time of year that I can't ride my bike.
Keeping weight off is mostly a matter of having made permanent changes to your eating and lifestyle. But for the most part anyone who is 50 lb overweight didn't gain that weight in one year to begin with, so they won't probably put it back on that fast either. I tend to gain 5 lb a year if I don't stay on top of it. So every other year I have to hit the plan again and knock off 10 or 15 lb to get back where I want to be. Nice thing is having worked out a system that works every time so at least I don't find myself 80lb overweight again before doing something about it.

I'm down about 10 pounds from Jan 1, and my bench max has increased by 35 pounds. I don't really have a target weight, because I'm not sure how the added muscle mass will factor in, but I'm just guessing I have another 2 months before I'm where I want to be.

I bet any added muscle mass is going to be difficult or impossible to notice on the scale. You will lose an ounce of muscle from your legs faster than you can add those ounces to anywhere else if you are also losing fat.agbullet2k1 wrote:I'm down about 10 pounds from Jan 1, and my bench max has increased by 35 pounds. It's very simple. Most of the time you are moving your body around with your legs. Reduce that weight by 10% and the muscle mass in your legs will go down just as well. Almost nothing you can do to counter this unless you are a professional cyclist or marathoner...
