1793 - Sam Houston was born in Virginia.

1807 - Congress passed a law banning the importation of slaves.

1836 - Texas declared its independence from Mexico.

1904 Theodor Seuss Geisel, known to the world as Dr. Seuss, was born in Springfield, Massachusetts.

Geisel's subversive books, including The Cat in the Hat, published in 1957, contributed as much as any other influence to the rebelliousness of the Baby Boom generation.

1923 - The first issue of Time magazine was published.

1933 - The movie "King Kong" had its world premiere in New York.

1949 - The aptly named B-50 Superfortress, the Lucky Lady II, landed at Fort Worth, Texas, after completing the first non-stop flight around the world.

1962 - Wilt ("The Stilt") Chamberlain set an NBA record by scoring 100 points in a single game.

1965 - The movie version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "The Sound of Music" had its world premiere in New York.

Thanks to both of you. My day was so full I quickly checked in yesterday morning & then got home last night at 6:00 +/- a little.

I was about to hammer you on "B-50 Superfortress" but decided to Google to be sure. Never knew that the B-29 had been modified and redesignated a B-50.
